I'll add my 2 cents here since this information helped me on another thread. This device is more powerful than your regular Fire TV stick and Chromecast w/GTV. It may or may not be noticeable in everyday tasks but where I feel that it really shines is in streaming games from my PC to my TV. I get smooth 1080P streaming with no artifacts and no noticeable lag. I've tested multiple other devices and none of them was as good.

Can you wirelessly stream audio from a fire tv stick to your echos? I have a "home theater" setup with fire tv cube and 2 echos and echo sub all synced and playing together wirelessly from whatever I'm watching from my fire tv cube. It's so convenient in fact that I'm getting rid of my klipsch 2.1 setup in my bedroom

With Kodi gone, and not much into Amazon echo system, for general 4K streaming, is Roku streaming stick 4k+ is better or Fire TV cube?
What do you mean by Kodi gone? I just upgraded my Kodi to Matrix.04. I used it last night. Am I missing something or were you just talking about IP thieves getting shut down?

ok correction*** i looked mine up, i have the 2nd gen fire tv (has micro sd on the back). so is it worth the upgrade to a cube? the only thing i use it for is running kodi. i mostly only use 1080p links but if this new cube can pull the 4k links without buffering, that could be a plus. I also use a the microsd card slot to load cartoon series' for the kids. dont have anything fancy like expensive speakers or anything/ or need to control other devices.

edit, looks like my 1st gen fire stick qualifies for this 20%off +$3 off.
doing some googling it looks like this new cube gets slowed down by amazon bloat stuff??? again I use my current 2nd gen fire tv for about 80% kodi related streaming. maybe once in awhile watch security cameras through tinycam+ and i use the microsd for kids cartoons that ive downloaded.
I also have a 2nd gen firetv. It is requiring me to click play / not load /click play recently. Which is annoying. But works. I use Logitech harmony hub. So 4k max stick is out of the question. But curious if this thing is worth it for the upgrade. I use as wired to router.

The Good
  • The Fire TV Cube (2nd Gen) is noticeably faster.
  • USB Flash drives are natively recognized, requires OTG cable/adapter.
The Bad
  • Kodi: Zoom doesn't work correctly (vertical only) unless Mediacodec (Surface) is disabled, tried Krypton 17.6, Leia 18.9 and Matrix 19.4.
  • TiviMate: Zoom doesn't work unless hardware video decoding is disabled.
The Ugly
  • Projector: No video output unless video input is selected on projector 1st and then Fire TV Cube is powered on or rebooted, tried "Auto" and "1080p 60Hz" display settings.

Summary
The Fire TV Stick 4K (non-Max version) doesn't have these issues. Being forced to use software video decoding isn't an issue for 1080p video since the Fire TV Cube has enough processing power. If you don't Zoom your videos to eliminate black bars then this isn't an issue since the Mediacodec (Surface) and hardware video decoding can be enabled. In short, avoid if using Kodi and/or IPTV like apps and you want to Zoom your videos. For all others, this is a solid upgrade at this price with the Amazon Prime 25% reward and Trade-In discount stacked.

While I like the performance upgrade the Ugly issue is a deal breaker for me. I have no desire to reboot the Fire TV Cube every time I turn on or switch inputs on my projector. It's also a downgrade if I have to disable hardware video decoding to be able to Zoom so black bars on videos can be eliminated. As such I'll be returning the Fire TV Cube.

Is the Ethernet port 1G or 100mpbs?

Also, does cube show video (on connected tv) from my security cameras … like Echo Show

I use the zoom feature within Kodi so movies that have black bars above/below fill the entire screen with just the movie image, which can be set-up so it does it automatically. To avoid confusion, I tested it with Krypton 17.6 and the same problem occurs. Need to disable Mediacodec (Surface) for the zoom feature to work correctly. If not, when using zoom it just stretches the movie vertically on the Fire TV Cube. The issues I mentioned don't occur with my Fire TV Stick 4K (non-Max version).

Ok so this morning, the offer page is still showing "Get 25% back total with your Amazon Visa - ends on March 31" but when you select the Fire Cube the product page only shows "Get 5% back".
Anyone else?

For the trade-in of the old firestick, I answered "no" to the accessories question. It still provided the $3 credit value and eligible for the 20% discount. I sent in just the old firestick (about 8 years old) with its USB cable only. No remote. Today the return was processed correctly.
in case others are wondering, it looks like you can keep the Amazon remote and achieve the same credit. Just send the stick only.

I have the remote but I can't seem to find the stick itself. Hopefully it turns up before mid april, but i've searched everywhere.

Do we have to ship the power adapter and cable with the trade in? Or is just the firestick and remote enough?
Thanks.

Same, I see "Get 5% back ($3.49 in rewards) on the amount charged to your Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card.".

I'll wait and see if it comes back.Otherwise its a pass.
