Bought the "frustration free" version from Amazon last week at about $10 more. The box came smashed up and prime tape all over it. Unopened at least. I opened to confirm all piece bags were in there. This is for my son's birthday and kind of wish it did come in a plain generic box. Just passing along if buying as a gift.

From Amazon select the gift option for it to be sent in a brown box
Great set! My only critique is that the simpler 3 in 1 sets are much better if you plan to rebuild frequently. This one is pretty complex, so we just built the ship and left it alone. A lot of the 3 in 1 sets also have a lot of compromise in the design so they can accommodate the other options. This one felt much more purpose-built.
Just a heads up this was on clearance a couple months back at one of my Walmart stores.... yes I know that we don't have time machines, but just thought I'd give a heads-up to check the clearance aisle or scan the upc with the Walmart app. Other Walmart stores still had them at normal price.
I picked up a Technics yellow jeep yesterday for 30.00 on clearance... the same one that pops up on here for 40.00 each month.
Just purchased for my father make his week a little better. Hoping the box arrives a little dented and bruised so he will actually open and build the thing.
I thought the frustration free packaging was supposed to do just that in lieu of the original packaging.
Half the time, I get it in a cardboard sleeve with no packing (which is fine), and the other half I get it with the shipping label right on the retail box (not fine).
Best advice is to pick the gift option if you care about the box, though they seem to bomb that about 10% of the time too. (Once, I received the Imperial Light Cruiser set with the shipping label on the retail box -- and the gift receipt in a sticky envelope, also stuck to the box. 🙄)

Have similar dealings with this. I received a frustration free box with gift marking in the normal brown lego box only it was also crushed by their system. You know... how everyone wants 300 dollar collector sets delivered.

That's about as low as it gets for a set this size.
