Thanks OP!
The best cpu I've ever used in a build :-) 3/4 of the performance of an overclocked 12600K at half the cost. Get the "F" version (no video) for $179 at Newegg (even cheaper elsewhere).
And don't waste $$ on a Z690 motherboard - these work amazing on a $139 B660 board. Except for overclocking, the B660 offers everything the Z boards do.
Thanks OP!

I'm looking into building my first pc and will most likely use this processor. I'm just looking for a decent energy efficient machine for office work to replace a 6ish year old Dell Inspiron. I do need it to be able to drive a 43" 4K monitor at 60hz which I believe this will do when paired with the right motherboard.
Any brand of motherboards you recommend? I see you mentioned a $139 B660. I would also like to be able to have a 2.5gb ethernet on the motherboard too for some future proofing. I should be able to build a decent office machine for $500 ish or so (hopefully) with 16gb of ram and a decent ssd drive.
I am near a Microcenter so that's a plus for me

I know, not everyone lives near one, but you should still know the price bar.
Plus...Newegg just sucks. You should always give pause even if they have the best price.
I chatted with Best Buy and they matched. Didn't question the distance. Just sent them a link with the closest MC selected. Worth a shot.
ASUS or MSI for the motherboard?
Any RAM recommendations (brand /speed) that at least Ed worked at their XMP speeds?
Thanks OP!

Funny I just bought a12600k for $240. Yours is hardly half the cost

If you're wondering how this compares to the 5600X deal for 200$, the 5600x is a superior processor. The 12600k is almost identical in gaming in fps test across the board and that cpu is 278$
This is only worth it if you are needing Intel, but I feel like this would be a better deal if it was like $160
It's not a more superior CPU. The 12400 beats the 5600X, even if it is only by 1-4%. Also this supports DDR5. So, if you're looking for a low entry or starter into a future proof system, this is the way to go. Also, it's more energy efficient. I'm team red all the way, but you can't deny the 12th gen Intel's are better than the 5000 series AMD. If you do, you're delusional and ignoring facts.

For sub-$150 boards, the gigabyte DS3H AC b660 board has the most features. Above $150, MSI has better power handling than the Asus, and more ports.
This CPU doesn't see a real world increase in performance with faster MHz ram, I would stick with 3200 MHz cl-16 ram. Put that money towards capacity. I've been pretty happy with teamgroup ram but timetec is also good ram if you don't care about flash, both work with xmp no problems in my experience.
Thanks OP!

You really should not get F CPUs because the video output is invaluable for troubleshooting/general use if anything happens to your GPU.

Yes, too bad I am stuck in Limbo with B560 motherboard.
I bought into B560 and i3 10100 last year, because of shortages of AMD chips.
But now I want to upgrade my CPU, and the best I can do is 11th gen like i5-11600k.
It is doable, but expensive right now, plus I need to buy a cooler.

If you can show me any benchmarks or even live frame per second videos on YouTube where it's actually better, I just watched about 15 different games between a 12600K and 5600X and across all the games it was a difference of the same fps or 5-10fps more. In some games Intel was 20fps and in other games AMD was 15 fps more. You are extraordinarily ignorant buddy, here's a video for you.
If your choosing a cpu for gaming. They're identical. Then numbers speak for themselves. And the 12400 doesn't have the E cores that the 12600k does. Your argument is invalid.
If you're playing a game and you're already getting over 150 fps, you're not gonna see a difference between 150 and 155fps. And that's compared to a 12600k. And the 12400 doesn't compare. It's a good processor. I mean at the end of the day you can't go wrong with either one. They are both gonna be excellent at anything you throw at it. I don't mean to say anything negative and I'm not an AMD fan boy. But you didn't give me any facts and I just shared with you some facts.

I don't mean to say anything negative, I'm just happy there is good competition in the CPU market. But when there's another good deal going on at team red, and someone wants to say that this product is better, when there's clearly benchmarks to say otherwise, I'm just sharing facts, and when someone says I'm delusional and I'm an idiot, but they don't share facts, and I get four thumbs down, and they get 8 thumbs up, I think the Intel fan boys are more disrespectful than the AMD fan boys. And they are more ignorant.
Besides who is realistically here, going to pair a 12400 with a motherboard that supports DDR5, and they're going to spend as much as they are on CPU and motherboard just on memory alone for a processor that's good, but not nearly as good as it could be had they got something like the 12700k. When your talking budget systems you have to use common sense….. I digress

I really wanted to go alderlake 12400 but I just couldn't find a cheap ITX DDR4 660 or 670 board that had 2 m.2 nvme slots. Ended up going AMD 5600g and B550. Also comes with wraith cooler, so end up saving quite a bit, not to mention runs at 65w. Works great in my NR200
