Thanks for the fishing deals. I have used this reel and it is not the best. The Shimano fx2500 has a better drag system and a lighter weight. Link: Shimano Fishing FX 2500HG FC CLAM Spinning Reel https://www.walmart.com/ip/878695544
Both are good reels but I reach for the Shimano every time. Happy fishing.

Thank you for linking an alternative in the same price range. I haven't used either but that Shimano appears to be the better of the two reels.

What's a good rod to pair this with? I'm a beginner and would prefer a two-piece due to size.
I'm super new to fishing and may get boo'd out of the room but would this be a good setup (or the Shimano reel) with a medium rod for sand bass/large mouth bass?
This is a decent reel if you want a river junker to catch catfish. I used to live near the Pure Fishing(parent company for Abu Garcia) factory and would pick these reels up for $5. They take a beating, I've had one for 4 years or so. Not the smoothest reel in the world but it beats the hell out of some other reels at a comparable price.

It would be fine, really depends on your budget. I'm very partial to Pfleuger for my spinning reels but they're quite a bit more expensive typically. I think I spent $40 on my Trion reel and it lasted 10 years before the bale finally gave out, but any of the Pure Fishing brands will refurbish your reels typically if you send them in. Pure fishing covers Mitchell, Penn, Pfleuger, Fenwick, Abu Garcia, Shakespeare(Ugly Stik) and a few others. If you have any fishing questions in general, feel free to hit me up. I've been fishing 5 days a week for the last 6 years and semi frequently since I was a kid in the 90s....I have TONS of gear.

YMMV on availability though...
I have the 7'0 Medium-Heavy Fast and it's actually quite beefy. So a Medium/Medium-Light version might match better with a 2500 sized reel.
