I have one as a refurb from the holidays at this price. The short of it is, i love it. The metal top makes it feel more premium than it actually is. For the money, getting one of these refurbed and running it through its paces to make sure it's not messed up is the way to go. I'm really happy with the purchase, with two main gripes: 1) the power connector into the laptop feels very cheap, and vulnerable to damage if not careful. 2) the laptop screen is not as bright as I would like, but it is reasonable for the price. The keyboard is functional but a bit meh.

At this price, an 11th gen i5 and 16gb is smokin at the refurb price if you get a good one. The SD threads back around the holidays about the refurb reported some folks who had bad experiences with different components breaking down. Mine came looking like new. Worst comes to worst you return it back to Wallyworld. AFAIK they don't have restocking charges, so you can run it through its paces until the return timeline ends.

One more thing: YT had a review of this laptop to be able to do a BIOS tweak that improved the performance of the laptop:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YuJso34l30

see about 2:10 in the "BIOS settings" section of the video. I tried doing this myself, but couldn't discern any difference in performance so maybe i did it wrong...

At this price, I'd take this over a $150 Chromebook any day, but yeah, you might be rolling the dice a little bit. I've had no problems though.
Weight: 4.0 lbs. -- Yikes!

That said, the specs (per component) look great for the price. Both CNET and notebookcheck say that holds up with their integration. Review links below.

I posted the above so you know it's available on their Q&A section on their website. You should verify them yourself.

Does it have a backlit keyboard or touchscreen? I don't see that listed anywhere or on GW's site. Their site is pretty bad/basic. This is a hell of a deal though.

I don't think it has a touchscreen from some random site reviews I have found.

I cant find a driver page for future use on their site either. It just loads the spec page when you hit "driver downloads".

SATA SSD. No NVMe support either if you were to replace the SSD.

These "Gateway" computers are not the gateway of past.
They are made by EVOO

Are you sure that's an aluminum lid - I never heard that said before?

According to ETA, its not NVME but its 330 bucks. You can also ADD another SSD drive up to 2 TB (and replace the current one if you wanted).

He ups the performance by changing the TDP power wattages to 30w from 15w. Looks pretty decent.

I bought a refurbished one 3 weeks ago and can confirm the lid is aluminum. Feels really nice actually. Gives it a MacBook feel but at 1/5 the cost. The bottom portion, however, is plastic

Realistically, if you are just gauging boot times etc. it won't make much of a difference.
