Just saw this as I am looking for a good prebuilt under 2k (non alienware). Thoughts on this one? I had bought the Lenovo at Costco but returned due to bad NIC and lousy tech support

Looking for all the genius's to weigh in. I am looking for the same. I like the price and CostCo experience/warranty. This processor seems to be on par with the mid-range i9 intel processors. I know the RTX 3060 TI is GeoForce and not Gigabyte which is a little less desirable. My son is telling me these things. I like the power supply (750W) and read somewhere that it might not be a bad idea to add a $17 MSI aftermarket part (mesh cover) somewhere on configuration to allow more airflow. Would def. want to put in 2 16GB RAM sticks at 3,000 or higher MHz...I've seen some CostCo reviews that said the one this comes with is actually 2,700+ MHz.

Where did you find the power supply rating?

This desktop was the same price last month and I was very close to pulling the trigger. I am stuck between this and the $999 11400f/3060 Newegg deal. I prefer costco for their warranty and customer service, but my use case is video editing and Intel CPU thrives for that due to their dedicated hardware for encoding/decoding h264 video.

I wonder if this is overkill for my usecase because it is just a hobby of mine and I'm sure either one would be a dramatic upgrade from my 8 year old i7 4790 Dell.

If your son is using it for gaming it's a great system for that. As stated above, for creative content Intel has some advantages.

GeForce is just a branding on all the 30 series cards, and gigabyte cards definitely aren't the most desirable. This 5800x gets smoked by the newer i9 processors, its about on par with a i5 12th gen 12600k. Overall, pretty meh deal, id much rather save $300 and grab the better ABS 10/11400f and 3060ti system

Not a genius, but I do have advice. In my opinion, this is a little overpriced relative to where the market seems to be heading.

As you're comparing specs, I would keep a few things in mind:
1. On a practical level, you're not going to really notice a difference between any relatively current CPUs. I know the nerds have benchmarks, but if you're just doing relatively basic spreadsheets, word processing, and pornhub viewing, it's not going to matter if you have an i9-12900k or a Ryzen 5 3600.
2. The same thing is true with RAM speed. I doubt that 16GB of 3200 mhz is going to feel all that different from 2833 or whatever. Where RAM starts to matter is if you flat out don't have enough, or if you only have one stick.
3. Where this stuff does start to matter a little bit is in gaming, but for the most part, the GPU is going to be the bottleneck there. Once you get to a relatively modern CPU and 16+GB of RAM ( and decent power supply), you're going to get your best bang for any additional bucks out of moving up GPU tiers.

In light of all of that, I think that this deal here is a lot more interesting: https://slickdeals.net/f/15716008

That is $975, has a slightly worse CPU and the same GPU. The most obvious weak points are the RAM (only 8GB) and the SSD. It sounds like your son is interested in PCs, upgrading RAM would be an easy/fun project. You could try to match the existing 8GB for cheap, or go with 2x16GB if you want to splurge a little bit.

Or you can just wait. GPUs are coming back in stock and prices are dropping. I would bet that by around the start of next month, some very decent options (3060 Ti based systems) will be available at $800 to $850.
