8k also means it's HDMI 2.1 compatible. That means it has enough bandwidth to run 4k 120fps on newer consoles and graphics cards.

why need 8k though? there is short of 8K resources or devices that can support it too.

You need 8K cables if you want to play PS5 or Xbox Series X games in 4K at 120fps. It's needed for full use of HDMI 2.1, which is quickly taking over and will become the new standard. 8K cables transfer information at a significantly higher speed than standard HDMI cables and 4K HDMI cables. You don't need an 8K TV or 8K content to get use out of them.

These cables suck, however. Monoprice stuff isn't going to stack up against better brands. All HDMI cables are not created equal.

Any suggestions on cables that don't suck?

I have this cord for my NVIDIA Shield TV, which I've only had for about 4 months now. Every app on Shield TV lags and skips. It's very annoying.

I don't know if the skipping/lag is cause of Shield TV or the cord itself.

I'm buying a new cord (different brand) this weekend and will give an update.

Can confirm these cables suck. I had them hooked up from my receiver to my short throw projector and they would constantly drop the signal or even not want to connect at all. I also tried connecting them from my pc with an Nvidia card to my receiver and same thing. I went to Walmart and bought a GE 6 foot cable that said it could do 4k 60hz (highest my projector will do) and have had zero problems with it. I understand some people may want cables for ps5 and Xbox 120hz at 4k,but just giving my experience at much lower bandwidth requirements.

HDMI 2.1 cables are always so darn finicky. Especially if you use an AVR.
