Note this is a 10/11 gen mobo, and if you want 12th gen, it wont work.
Pass for me. Z590 mobo is 11th Gen intel. For price-performance value, the i5 12400 is the sweet spot. Needs a z6xx mobo that supports ddr4 to be hot. A z690 would give you a solid upgrade path.
Don't get hung up on the 12th gen Techtooober hype.

Anyone gots theirs assembled yet? Just got done. Using an i5-11600K with EVGA CLC 240 cooler. When I turn it on and go to the BIOS settings, I see CPU temps at 75 degree Celsius right off the batt. Within a minute or so, system shuts down. Can't tell if it's a CPU issue or cooler issue or ??? Anyone else? I got the cooler header connected to the AIO motherboard header. All fans spinning.
Before mounting cooler onto CPU ....
Did you apply thermal paste.?
Some coolers may have it pre-applied.
When mounting cooler, thermal paste needs to be evenly distributed
using proper quantities to provide a thermoconductive seal.

EVGA CLC 240 has thermal paste on it already. I initially thought that it was a thermal paste issue, so I removed the cooler from the cpu, cleaned off all the old paste on the CPU and cooler with alcohol and put new Arctic Silver thermal paste. Same overheating results.

I'm thinking perhaps I received a defective CPU.

ASUS has the worst branding ever. ROG Strix stuff is RGB puke with their weird logo and "TUF Gaming" is about as lame as brand identities come. Who wants this crap displayed all over their rig?
I'm constantlys surprised people want this all ovewr their stuff in general, but clearly it is selling, and people show it all over youtube. Not mah thing, but doesn't bother me if others like it.

Upcoming 13th gen CPU will work in 12th gen mobo's. So it kind of matters from a longevity standpoint.
Yeah, but what about 14th or 15th gen?

1 and maybe 2 generation doesn't really increase the life that much. I'd say 4-6 years like AMD does it, is the way to go.

11th vs 12th gen mobile isn't a huge difference. But 11th gen vs 12th gen desktop is pretty huge.

Intel had yield issues with their process so they had to backport Rocket Lake to their older process, which resulted in a very messy cobbled together solution. 12th gen is significantly better.
but draws a crapton of power. Good cooling is a must

Quote from az060693 :
Can tell you're just trolling because you haven't added any of that to this discussion, but to quote the crux of it:

"Intel's Rocket Lake as a backported processor design has worked, but has critical issues with efficiency and peak power draw."

I truly, truly doubt you know more than Dr. Ian Cuttress.

Additionally 12th gen added way more PCIe lanes to both the CPU and the chipset.

Ignore turbodog. They are a Intel fanboy troll that claims they write about this for a living. All I see is toxic behavior suitable of a 5-year at best and has no interest in factual discussion. Instead, they are here only to flaunt their supposed (lack) of knowledge.

Glad this wasn't available when I built a month ago... I would have ended up spending more to get the 3060 Ti and end up stuck looking at that hideous case. Happy with my $329 2060... will upgrade if/when I see a 3060 Ti around $450 and move the 2060 to the kids' rig to replace their 1650.

Just an update to my original post. It turned out to be a defective EVGA liquid cooler. I replaced it with a simple $25 cooler temporarily and temps have gone down to expected values. It all worked out, ended up returning the i5-11600K to Amazon after suspecting it to be the culprit and getting the i7-11700kf on sale at Micro Center ($35 cheaper). Got the Corsair icue h100i elite capellix liquid cooler from Corsair online store for only $7 more (arriving today) than the EVGA.
