Man Dyson makes too many models. Do they make a model and then when a new version comes out they just make the new one more expensive and keep the old one around? I can't tell if should step up to the V10 or not.
Agreed. I used to recommend Dyson to everyone, but now I can't do that because I don't know the difference among all the models.
It's the soft roller that really makes the difference for hard surfaces…it's really the main key piece. I did extensive research in the past up until they released the V10.

The V8 battery life is significantly less then the V10 along with the price tag. Otherwise their are small nuanced differences. The absolute versions include both the brush roller head and soft roller. The attachments in these higher tier versions (absolute vs their basic) are really overkill.

For battery life think about how long your actually vaccum on time will be….it ends up not being a lot. Ex I bought 2 dyson refurbished (eBay) v6 absolutes for $280 + tax 4 years ago. I have 2200sqft with 50/50 carpet/hard wood… between the both of them it's enough to do the whole place. One is dying very soon.

If I recall correctly, after the V6 most of the next versions had The major issues worked out (easier to empty bin, HEPA filter etc).

Quote from Mr.Enigma :
To be fair, Dyson isn't the only ones who do that. It's nearly every vaccum maker. At least Dyson have numbering that make sense.

I like Shark but they do not make it easy to differentiate between models and their tiers. It doesn't help that there are model variations with different retailers.
these companies are treating a freaking vaccum like the next gen phone; and they feel you should go to a vaccum school and be well educated on vacuum models to know how much and what type of sucking you need.

another way for them to try to upsell you on BS; happens when a company's PR/marketing has fatter budget then their R/D and sales margins. may work well for them on short term, but long term they end up losing loyal customers...

if I have 10 models of the same vacumm to choose from and they all look the same; you bet your ass that I am either buying the cheapest, or the cheapest in the market

$300 for a V8 is questionable. If you can wait, I have seen a V10 for ~$360 once in a while. Although is has better battery life, V10, V15 and Outsize are bigger and heavier than the V8. When I tried it at the store, it is just a little too heavy and bulky to move it around in one hand. Having said that, I still feel it's not a good deal to pay $300 on a V8 which came out 6 years ago.

I bought my first Dyson cordless in 2013. It's a DC35. I still use it everyday. It still had the original battery. It still runs about 18 min with out the motorized head and not turning on the "MAX" mode. I bought my Mom a V6 in 2015, it is on its second replacement battery. I also bought a refurbished V8 Absolute 3 years ago. I paid $180. It's like brand new. No issue at all. I have not seen any good refurbished Dyson deals since the pandemic. I don't use the Dyson on any hard surface (hardwood floor, titles, laminated, etc). I use a wide microfiber mop to push all the dirt to one spot and use the Dyson to suck up the dirt and clean surface of the mop. I got the idea after seeing how people clean large commercial space.

Is this a refurbished version? I ordered one from Walmart but received dirty machine in a plain box.
