Why?
When pounding pork or chicken flat, we cover the meat with plastic wrap.
It keeps mallet clean, but more importantly, it prevents meat bits/juices from splashing all over the counter.
plastic wrap down on marble counter, meat, fold plastic back over... whack away.
Usually use just the flat side... the pointy side will cause holes eventually, defeating the plastic wrap. Can hit a few times with points, just not a lot.

Wouldn't you possibly piece the Saran Wrap though? I mean like holes in a condom you really don't want to mess around with any microscopic holes from Saran Wrap from raw chicken on something that doesn't get washed. Sounds like a disease waiting to happen
