Pretty bad reviews but since most mention it's being slow it's most likely due to mechanical hard drive so be prepared to install M.2 SSD to gain good speeds, while mechanical can be still used as storage (install m.2, use program to copy the old drive then erase old one for storage which should be pretty simple). As far as CD/DVD it would just add extra weight and nowadays getting used rarely IMO.
As far as no touchscreen…..complaining for its price of $300 is….
It has full HD 15.6" lcd, 11th gen Intel i3 CPU, backlit keyboard, option for M.2 drive and while 8gb is basic it's still more than most of the laptops below $400 offer (it has 4GB soldered and one sodimm available with 4GB in it so 8GB stick or maybe even 16GB can be added).
WiFi supports AX 2x2 as well as Bluetooth 5.1

Based on this review [laptopmedia.com], the RAM is upgradable and it does have a sd card reader. There is also an additional M.2 slot for ssd.

I agree with the other comments. Out of the box, this laptop will be slow and offer a poor user experience due to the mechanical hard drive. If you have the technical savvy to add a SSD drive into the M2 slot, install Windows on the SSD, then format the 1 TB mechanical drive for extra storage, then this will become a solid machine with good performance for the price. You can get a 240 GB M2 SSD for around $40 to $50.

A comparable laptop with 8gb and 256gb SSD is regularly on sale at $350 or less - I'd wait for that instead.

Also I have a Dell with the same CPU with 4gb RAM and 128gb SSD. I use it for Excel, opening up a bunch of tabs in Chrome, remote desktop etc etc. Absolutely zero issues even with that minimal specs on Windows 11. I figure if/when I need more RAM or more storage I can easily pop in a 2nd stick of RAM or SSD.

The appeal here is you can buy a 256 gb SSD for around $40 and put in the empty M2 slot. The leaves the 1 Tb mechanical drive available for storage. That extra 1 Tb of storage can be very valuable for some. Of course, this is assuming you have the ability to add the M2 drive yourself.

It's almost comparing apples to oranges. First, good 500GB NVME can be bought for around $45 RN so why aim for 1TB while comparing to much better laptop (as well as 2x the cost) that has 512GB?
Obviously the $650 one has much better CPU, GPU, ram (probably soldered though), nice option for ports like Thunderbolt 4.0 etc. The question should include what you'll be trying to use it for in order for someone give you a more accurate suggestion.
If you're not tied by budget or need high performance then the answer is clear otherwise for most basic use with hard drive upgrade to M.2 this should be pretty fast. Either way since this offers 2.5" storage option as well the mechanical can be replaced with regular SSD instead if someone has spare laying around.

Good point. Wasn't sure if the Acer was a killer deal vs this ideapad. It's going to be used as a primary machine for the household along with watching training videos to get certs. Not sure if the i3 could cut it.

I think it can handle all of regular stuff including videos just fine if hard drive gets upgraded. As long as you don't expect to do medium gaming or running multiple programs that are memory/processing heavy.

Just bought this one, I'll pick it up in the morning. Does this have an NVME or an M.2 slot? which drive do you recommend for $40?

Personally I would probably go for Samsung but currently I don't see them on sale (I got bunch of them from BestBuy when they offered refurbished ones on sale but right now they only have 980 @$55 SKU# 6457128 ), currently the cheapest I see while still decent specs is Silicon Power one on Amazon @$45 https://www.amazon.com/Silicon-Po...r=1-3&th=1

I'm pretty sure it should support NVME since SATA went out of "style" pretty quick (maybe because they didn't offer much improvement in speed over 2.5" SSDs).
*I see on Lenovo site for these series it shows PCIe as storage option so it should support NVME.
Here's PDF of the whole series line up which included most of information available for them (some features only available depending on specific model): https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/...6_Spec.pdf
It seems model with both storage options has slightly smaller battery, They also offer 3 versions of display and lowest is TN panel (250 nits one). The M.2 has NVME 3.0x4 support.

Starting from Windows 8 most of the time the key is integrated into the BIOS/firmware of the MB so it automatically activates it on new OS system installations/re-installations.
