I got the R7 AFTER I got a speeding ticket using only Waze. Waze will NOT help you if no one has reported/or saw the cop. With the R7, you will be alerted to the Ka band radar gun, as soon as it's in range. Even when the cop is BEHIND you and closing in. Waze will NOT help you in such circumstances. Ideally, you need BOTH so one compliments the other.

Big brother says you can't buy something with your money and put it inside your car when you are driving on roads that you paid for because some cops that you also pay for said so??? What kind of assbackwards asshattery is that??? Virginia sucks.

Just make sure you remove it from line of sight inside your vehicle. When traveling through VA I catch myself constantly grabbing my V1 off the windshield and hiding it. You could also mount it really close to the top of the windshield butted against the headliner where it's harder to see from outside the car. GL…VA sucks.

it does have laser detection, but it's a little weak, it doesn't really matter though, of you get tagged with laser, it's too late.

Depends on your area if that's an issue or not.

In Nor Cal it's a mixed bag, can't use laser when moving so most motorcycle cops carry laser while cars have radar.

if laser is the main usage by your local police, get a laser jammer.

They have detectors for radar detectors. Simply hiding it from view does not work.

Have two. Great detectors. On sale because Uniden is expecting to ship the second batch of the new R8 (slightly longer range, buttons moved to the front) in the next week or two.

For this price, can't be beat.

I have one and love it but how can you say there's frequent firmware updates. The most recent was released 05/27/2021 so we're at 11 months. I think they're overdue on an update to help refine the auto lockouts. It works pretty well but just needs some further tweaking

Only thing you can do for Laser is jammer, waze, drive slow. Any radar detector will just tell you when you are going to get ticket.
