Here's a better 3060 deal IMO... $899.99 with 16 GB RAM and much better CPU.

An Open Box unit for $650 or so would be great.

I believe the gpu is capped at 80ish watts. Cheapest 3060 laptop and it has been 800 before.

CPU temps are absolutely horrible tho.

not being a tech guy, what is a good priced, quality system with 3060 and 16MB RAM that will last a college kid for 4/5 years?

The Acer should be just fine. I think the previous post was about the MSI, which is running lower wattage than the Acer. The MSI is 75W and Acer is 95W based on the Q&As in the individual listings. If you're near enough to a MC to get the Acer at 900, it's not a bad deal.

Though as-is, it likely won't stand the test of time for many people in the storage department. But that's typically an easy and relatively cheap upgrade to do. Once the drive is about 450GB full, it would be wise to research a 1-2TB secondary drive, counting on what the chassis can fit. Either option can use an additional M.2 drive.

Acer computer or this Dell computer???

Inspiron 16 Plus Laptop
11th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-11800H
NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3060, 6 GB GDDR6, 60 W
16 GB, 2 x 8 GB, DDR4, 3200 MHz
1 TB, M.2, PCIe NVMe, SSD
16", 3K 3072x1920, 60Hz, Non-Touch, AG, Wide Viewing Angle, 300 nit, ComfortView Plus

Dell computer is listed at $1219.99 but there is a $120 off $599 Amex credit, so $1,099 plus tax versus Acer at $919.99 plus tax. $250 premium for 11th Gen i7 and 1 TB SSD.

I'd probably stick with the Acer. Put the extra cash saved into a good 2TB M2 drive. The Dell is more of a "Creator" laptop. Photoshop, etc... The i7 vs Ryzen isn't much of a difference anymore. Go with the cheaper option. Both have 8 cores and 16 threads, most people aren't pushing those chips at all.

The pluses for the Acer are a high refresh screen for gaming, and a higher wattage GPU to push the screen more.
The Plus for the Dell is a nicer quality and resolution screen, but it's only 60Hz and 1/2 TB more storage.
But the $250 difference can buy a 2TB second drive along with a nice mouse.

Bought this about two months ago (at $800) and so far I'm disappointed.

Pros:
-Size/Weight is decent for a capable gaming laptop.
-8GB ram isn't a big issue (another 8GB DDR4 costs <$30)
-Overall aesthetic design is good (red's my fave color)

Cons:
-Screen has truly awful ghosting, barely playable at 144hz on fast paced action games.
-Battery life is abysmal, barely lasts for over 2 hours even on battery saver and minimal applications. Not sure why, it's a 51mWh battery and I formatted Windows 11 to get rid of any bloatware or any weird power settings.
-Fan gets extremely loud, sometimes even with only minimal programs running. And it stays quite hot. Overall the cooling on this laptop seems subpar.
-All the ports besides power and HDMI are located on the right side. So if you're right handed and using a mouse you will bump into them. Weird design considering over 85% of people are right handed.
-Speaking of, only two USB ports.
-MSI support is rather bad. Poor English translations on their website/documentation and there isn't even a page dedicated to this specific model. Speaking of, my MSI MAG271CQR monitor just died this past month, and I'm finding out there are a lot of people experiencing the same issue with that. So what I'm saying is you are lucky if you get a good MSI product.

There is a reason this laptop is quite inexpensive compared to the other 3060 models.

Own this one, added ram and 970evo plus, good enough for casual gaming...most games on very high, cyberpunk... Eh, mix settings high-very high, low ray tracing for better fps, yes cpu is hot (2077 up to 90) but idc laptop does it's job
