Please stop with that nonsense. That was a pricing error and orders were cancelled left and right. I know you think it's funny, but it could be misleading to others, who don't know better.
The first easystore model (WDBDNK0010BBK-WESN) and the Elements SE model (WDBEPK0010BBK-WESN) are likely to be CMR/PMR drives (good). All of the My Passport models (WDBYNN0010Bxx-WESN) are likely to be SMR drives (bad) although there is a chance you could get one with a CMR/PMR drive. I was unable to find any information about the second easystore model (WDBAJN0010BBK-WESN).
Isn't it a standard Micro-B style cable? Like the $5 ones they sell on Monoprice, https://www.monoprice.com/product...e8237b0705

Units are usually cosmetically indistinguishable from New products, however some may show signs of light use. Functionally, these units are equivalent to New.

Oxymorons: Jumbo shrimp, military intelligence (props to George Carlin) and refurb backup drives.

2 tb drives for $40. 4tb for 45.

I bought a bunch for use as temp storage on multimedia units, video game storage, and travel storage for my laptop.

It's odd that nobody is discussing the "refurbished" aspect of the only moving PC part. One that is extremely sensitive to falls and bumps. I think twice about getting spinning platters online (when they are new)
I have two identical 3TB WD external drives.one fell a while ago and one did not fall.
Last week one died and ironically it was the one that did not fall!

That might be my first true hard drive failure after many years of owning many drives.

I have the data backed up luckily. I always back up my important content to a second drive...

I would not rely on a hard drive, new or refurbished, for important data without a backup...
Especially non SSD drives. But even SSD drives fail, so even with SSD drives, I always back up all my data to a second duplicate drive.

Just beware when purchasing WD products. Had a HD filed with 10 years of my personal business backup files that got corrupted randomly within warranty time frame and WD refused to replace it. Was trying to send it to have it recovered which meant sending the hard drive in to a third party approved by WD but WD would not replace it unless I sent it in to them in California. How they expected me to recover my files without the original HD I don't know but they will never get my money ever again. Not to mention their customer service is based in India and they would call me at 10 PM at night to ask me questions about the HD.

I can see getting a refurbished tv or maybe even a phone but a spinning hard drive?

Yeah... pure madness. Refurbished spinning disk is a hard heck no!

Can these be repurposed as internal drives or an expansion drive for a laptop? Thanks.

You should never buy refurbished HDD .... period!
Why not?
"period" isn't much of a helpful justification.
others above have said they had good experiences with refurb dirves, given common sense guidelines for usage and backups
what is your counter-argument? personal experience? link to some statistics somewhere?

Isn't that the worst.. I've gotten so many tech emails or calls at the complete opposite of our USA standard business hours.

Ok "David" with that thick accent.. I'm trying to sleep here. 🤣

Probably not, back in the day yes but they seem to embed the proprietary controller with the USB built on rather then a separate SATA to USB board.

I bought the 4tb passport ultra, it just arrived. WD dash board shows 0 hours of use and all diagnostics were passed. Visually the device is new and was packed well but likely not the original packaging. This drive is USB-C, not the "special cable" discussed in a couple of comments. So far all looks well. I'm trying to consolidate/organize my "horded" data of about 1tb. I have a copy on 2 other hard drives just to be safe.

Does it come with a cord? I don't see one in the description other than to tell me how it connects. TIA
