Same here as the father's day gift. I looked at the angle grinder alone, it's $60 without battery. It's worth to spend the extra $ to get two more batteries.

I really want the inverter which is now in the "no longer available" column in OP. However, the batteries and the inverter are both listed as available at my local store. I tried adding them to cart and had no luck getting the inverter free, but what if I physically go to the store and try? What do you all think- any chance it would work??

I don't think you'll have any trouble replicating the deal at your local store. Despite what's currently listed on line, I went to the nearest HD and found things still available there. No issues at all picking up the high pressure inflator as a free tool with the battery pack in store yesterday.

It should be available in-store with the inverter as the free tool. That's how I got mines.

So does the return trick still work if you only want to keep the batteries? Return the tool to get discounted batteries?

yes, provided you buy 2 different skus. Some battery and tool combos come packaged together as a single sku. Don't buy that, you want two separate line items on a receipt.
