If you have played TLOU Part 1, then I highly encourage you to give this game a shot and form a conclusion of your own.
Without spoiling anything, I can say that I enjoyed the game very much. My enjoyment does not come from the story it told, but rather its gameplay and visuals. Since I played the game near its release window, I was not exposed to reviews that exist for it now, thus I found the narrative route taken in Part 2 to be truly audacious. I did not feel too great about it while playing through it, but have since grown to appreciate the writers for it. The story is not bad by and means, in fact it is a solid story; if the writing from Part 1 was not as good as it turned out to be (it is considered to be one of the best among all story-telling mediums), I do not think the story told here would be as devisive. I did, however, enjoy how amazing everything looked visually and how it played, so I didn't immediately hate it for not telling a story I wanted, but instead kept playing to find out how it would conclude based on the choices the characters and story made.
Story-wise, I personally do not think this game holds a candle to Part 1, but it exceeds in all other areas. The gameplay is an improvement over the predecessor as it improves upon many (if not all) of its gameplay elements and introduces new ones.
You may come to a different conclusion from playing the game, which I think is truly what matters. There are many things that may make or break one's enjoyment of a videogame (some of which are technical, gameplay, and narrative), so you may be doing yourself a disservice by avoiding this game (or any other) based on others' reviews or conclusions, including this one.
There has only been one The Last of Us game and an add-on called Left Behind. Sometimes things are better if you stop before what you like gets destroyed. Go play Miles Morales or Uncharted instead of TLOU2.

That's the common thing I'm hearing about this. Does the physical copy get upgraded for PS5? Or would it be better to wait for the digital copy to hit this price?
I got a huge backlog that I can wait to play this later; esp waiting for digital.
For part I, my wife got it for me for my bday when it lauched and I played it and completed on PS3. Story was the biggest reason why I loved it. Game play mechanics did get repetitive by the final act though that I just wanted to get it over with.
So, part II, flipped this for some people? Questionable story, while better gameplay? (The first gameplay wasn't bad for early acts. Just by 75% through it really got repetitive).
Story aside, the gameplay itself is as enjoyable as the first game.

You are correct! The game pisses you off but in the end it is an amazing trip!
