One more safety PSA. These shouldn't be stored in hot garages or sheds, temps exceeding 120 can cause combustion

Lucked out and got three packs of three. It's ridiculous that they are so expensive now, I haven't seen these bottles for this price since about 2016.

Despite all the TD people are throwing for your comment, you're absolutely correct and that these should not be refilled. Why is that so? It's because the containers are relatively thin walled and there is no way to accurately measure just how much gas and liquid propane is going into the canister. The problem that occurs is that if you put in too much liquid propane it will expand when the tank gets back up to room temperature, and that will cause the internal pressure of the canister to very easily exceed the pressure rating that it was designed for.

I've seen people fill these and then have the internal valve break an hour later and just spray LP & gas directly up into the air. I've also seen swollen canisters where the tank had bowed out and partially crushed the canister down into a more spherical shape. One of them was completely empty, which means that it had a rupture that fortunately didn't actually cause the canister to burst. The guy that had refilled them had no idea until I pointed it out to him.

If you want to have refillable containers, you can often buy them for about $15-$20 each on sale, and they are wwaaaay more heavy duty.
Thanks for more detailed explanation, I hope those folks downvoted my comment understand the risk doing so, life is more precious than few bucks that they have saved.

How do you folks dispose of these when empty? Can't throw in the trash, can't find a place to recycle them.
I always recycled them at the county recycling event, but they haven't had one since the pandemic so now I'm just stockpiling empties.

Where do you store these?
They're safe to store outside, or in shaded areas. I store mine in a shed not too close to my house and under the shade. The PSA is mainly meant for those hoarding to save a few bucks, not worth the risk

Or you know. You realize that the pressure is limited and you can never actually fill them back to 1lb using a simple valve. And you weigh the thing instead of being an idiot

This is a good deal. Look up on YouTube how to refill these. I did it and I'm not very handy.
I use these for a buddy heater but now use a big tank with a 10 foot hose. Make sure you get a filter if you go this route.

Fake news. It has excessive pressure release valve.

You can. Freeze your cylinder you want filled in the freezer. My issue is occasional over-filling. Still ok since pressure inside is function of temperature and not amount of liquid.

Right. So the whole "I've seen ballooned tanks from people overfilling" is BS. You'd have to pump it in cold then leave it in the car in direct sun to cause that. It's almost impossible to refill to the original level using the freezer method which means there is no way to overpressure. And even if you could. They have pressure release valves.

Just pointing out the guys saying "you can't refill them" have no leg to stand on.

If you go camping a lot a 5 lbs might be worth it as it is reusable. The Coleman's are not meant to be refillable but everyone does it anyways. I find the 5 gallons to be very space efficient esp in the car.

thanks for the tip! im getting that 5 gallon tank, should be very cheap to refill and will last longer than the single use bottles and not crate waste. kuddos brotha!

For safety reason, I don't recommend you doing so, these containers are not designed for refillment.
If you do decide to refill them, just fill them 3/4 full to minimize risk of explosion. Weight the empty bottle before hand to get a tare weight, then add 12oz.

To minimize the risk of VENTING.

And 1lb is already in the safety margin. And you can't even get that high

Bought the last two 3-packs in Acworth, GA. Price not marked on shelf, so if not for slickdeals I wouldn't have known
