The problem with these stupid things (and many like them) is that you can't direct-power them, and activate them, via AC power. So you're just adding one more stress to your life, always worrying whether there's enough charge left, then it doesn't work when you want it to...

Several years ago I bought a similar LED globe [amazon.com]; using an old USB hub power cord I had, it's now plugged in AC power 24/7.
My version also had a remote which works very well. I never move it around, so portability wasn't an issue. YMMV
