I love these ultra small form factor PCs, but this is hardly a deal. You can regularly find these types of PCs for just a few dollars more with twice the RAM and a usable drive size.

It doesn't look like it will support Windows 11 either:

This is not a deal at all. This processor, although an i5, is many years old and was from when intel just sat around and did nothing basically rereleasing the same chips every year because amd couldn't come out with anything competitive for years.

No Windows 11 support means its out of MS support 2025.
There are ways to put windows 11 on computers that aren't technically capable. By 2025 this will be pretty much obsolete anyway though.

Not sure why the hate but this is a good basic desktop.
It's a good basic desktop, but there are three main issues:
  • For home users, a 6th gen CPU will not run Win 11. (Yes, there are workarounds, but some people can't/don't want to go that route.)
  • For Plex/Jellyfin/Emby users looking for a transcoding box, the 6th gen CPU QuickSync does not have full support for transcoding HVEC/H.265 10-bit sources.
  • For everyone else, $200 for a refurb Dell 7050 Micro in 2022 just isn't a very good deal. If it were new old stock with a full warranty, I might be able to see the draw for some, but not as-is. You can get a comparable 1L PC from Dell/Lenovo/HP for close to $100 on eBay (Dell 3050 [ebay.com], HP EliteDesk 800 G2 [ebay.com]) or ~$120-150 for one with a 7th CPU (HP ProDesk 600 G3 [ebay.com], Dell 7050 [ebay.com]). I paid around $200 for my 6th gen Lenovo, and that was years ago, and even then it came with 4x the RAM as the one in this deal. The 100 day warranty in this deal isn't nothing, but when comparable units are half the price on eBay, you can buy two complete units, and be your own warranty.

Anyone happen to use this as a Plex server by chance & care to comment on it?
Could run as a low cost entry Plex server for local delivery. It could run a max 2 1080p streams with trans-coding. Your challenge would be storage options due to lack of space for additional HDDs. You could limit that with various options for attached storage. YMMV depending on encoding, video quality, etc. IMO you would outgrow the usefulness of this as a plex server fairly quickly and would be better using a decommissioned Dell/HP Tower server with Xeon processor due to additional horsepower better power supply and ability to add more onboard storage. Even though this could potentially double your entry cost it would save you more money in the long run while also offering better performance.

However, If just getting in and getting started with Plex is the goal this isn't a bad entry point and you should be able to sell in the near future to recover some of your investment when you are ready to upgrade

Your IT team did not do its job. Also, 6th gen is too old.

As long as you aren't trying to transcode 10bit HVEC, an i5-6600t is capable of WAY more than 2 1080p streams when utilizing Intel Quick Sync.

I don't know that comparing a processor two generations newer is really a helpful data point for this deal. The 8500t has two more cores, a 35% higher passmark, and is capable of transcoding 10-bit HEVC/H.265 (something the 6th gen QuickSync cannot do).

I've got Plex running through my laptop which is fine for now. But would love to get a small PC or NAS to run it so I can always access my media & not have to have my laptop on whenever I want to watch something. Probably going to hold off on this as it seems reviews & feedback are fairly mixed.

Got this in a couple days ago and it took me no time at all to install the Win 11 iso with the one registry change. Start to finish was less than an hour.

You can easily install via a USB stick or imaging software (MDT/SCCM etc). I have a 7020 with Win 11.

But how long would it be supported with critical updates?
