This is the best of the major brand air purifiers since it has a pre-filter screen. The screen plus the charcoal filter removes 95% of the dust before it hits the hepa filter, thus extending the life of the hepa filter tremendously. I will never buy an air filter again that does not have the pre-filter screen which you simply vacuum every couple of weeks.

Use the OEM filter. If you're going to spend the money on a decent air purifier, don't cheap out on the most important part of the entire unit.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for replacement filters for these? The Amazon reviews for the filters all have complaints of plastic smell

Many people seem to prefer the Winex 5500-2 to this model, due to the better charcoal portion of the filter.

However, the 5500-2, this model, and the identically performing Coway AP-1512HH Mighty are always the top three recommended products for best value to performance in an air purifier.

I ended up getting that model a few months ago and I have really liked it.

Another thing you could do is get two of these and place them in opposite corners of the room, or in different rooms all together. Using two of these will be less expensive and move more air than a 400s (or any other high end model, for that matter).

So if you want to be truly slick, double down on this or a Winex 5500-2. If you only want a single unit and don't mind paying extra, the 400s is a great option too.

I got one on the last slickdeal; sticker shock got me but i'm definitely glad we got it. It cured my son's eczema (he's allergic to cats and the purifier removed allergans almost entirely).
