For a $50 premium, with the Acer you get half the RAM and HD space, what might be a comparable display (the GW is a little dim for my taste), similar CPU, and certainly a better brand name...and it's new. Interesting call for those of you in the market for one of these. I'd argue the GW is better value....assuming you get a good one. I've had a good experience with mine for over half a year now. If you're willing to roll the dice on a refurb that can be returned to Wallyworld, I'd say go for the GW, but this seems like a decent value?

Thankfully it comes with a 2 year Allstate warranty so might just file a claim to have the fans looked at. Was hoping to not have any issues upon using it.

Issues with the Gateway: Very cheaply built, the hinge connecting the screen to the laptop seems very flimsy and I am not sure about long-term durability. Screen is fairly dim (I have no idea what nit rating it is), colors don't seem very accurate, keyboard is very uncomfortable, battery life isn't that great (maybe 4 hours, just browsing web/youtube), and it feels MUCH heavier than the stated weight (I think it's claimed to be 4.5lb, feels like it weighs 6lb). The touchpad also doesn't always register taps, which is frustrating.
Good things about the Gateway: Easy to upgrade to Windows 11, 16GB RAM, fingerprint reader works well, upgrade slot on the bottom for an M.2 SATA SSD. So you can add an SSD very easily. (NOTE: Will not accept M.2 NVME SSD) . Also runs Linux very well; I have dual-booted the laptop so I can run Win 11 and Ubuntu.
I wouldn't buy the Gateway again, knowing what I do now.
