Does not need to be. Compact, light weight, not an overpowering or uncontrolled "impact". Brushless or not. This has its purpose and a niche but it is not everything.

Brushless is in theory a more efficient motor with more power for its size but.... you do not get something for nothing and it's not a slam dunk. There are good and bad brushed and brushless things and not all brushless things are better than all brushed things. A bushed motor is a much simpler design internally for the speed controller and cheaper. To offer brushless which is more complicated and expensive at a competitive price point requires design decisions that skimp and save elsewhere. Often, cheap crappy internal electronics for the more advanced speed controller that run brushless equipment is its failure. To make something brushless just to be brushless has a marketing advantage though as the subtle changes with a cheaper chuck, smaller bearings, plastic/nylon instead of sintered metal etc. are overlooked. When is the last time you saw a battery/powered tool that bragged or touted its internal design, type of ESC, bearings, chuck or head design? They don't, they just say "It's Brushless" and most people deduce that's better.
You are correct, because it doesn't have a chuck like a drill or drill/driver would. However, changing screw bits is a snap with this, holds hex bits more securely than a chuck that is meant for round bits, and you can buy drill bits with hex shanks. It comes down to what you would use the tool primarily. Bosch makes very good and durable tools.
Bosch is THE best brand for just pure quality. You pick up their tools and it's something special.

Nonetheless I still sold my 12v max stuff and went Milwaukee. Wider selection, almost as small and light, not expensive used, and they have an amazing M12 shop vac among other great things. Plus they are not very expensive and easy to buy in the states, and constantly innovating.

Would this be powerful enough to quickly remove the lug nuts from my truck?
Would be the wrong tool for the job. Excellent pocket driver designed for smaller tasks.

I have experienced the opposite. I have some that must be well past ten years old and are still going. I have left them in the drills over a winter and for extended of periods of time and when grabbed they had almost full charge
My experience with Bosch batteries are extremely positive as some are very old and have 10.8V on the outer cover which changed to 12V later to compete in the competitive market. Not one 10.8V or 12V battery has failed which is amazing. Bosch 12V pocket driver and impact driver are very light-weight and feel great in your hand. Enough power to complete small tasks with no issues.

I'm with you I think I have some about 14 or more years old and they still do work. What shocked me more is how I can really abuse them, and they just keep going. I have multiple sets and one stayed in the garage with no use for the better part of a year and through a very cold winter and still had full charge when I finally got back to using it. Add in that before that they were in a contractor setting and I regularly overtaxed the impact driver for jobs maybe I should get my 18V out for. Hard day to day business use for many years before they were retired somewhat to use just around the house. Mix in a few falls from very high and generally just being tossed around and beat up. It is almost miraculous how robust they are. Using them now in my basement remodel and once again the little Bosch gets used as much or more than the big drivers for much home improvement use. It is just the better tool many jobs unless you are doing all real heavy work. These sets really do hit a sweet spot and it is an amazing tool for the price that I have found none to compare to.

I have an old drill that I use when I need to, and I also have Ryobi 4V QuickTurn Lithium-Ion Cordless 1/4 in. Hex Screwdriver Kit that I got a couple of months ago. I recently bought the hart 5 tool deal that was posted on SD for 80 because I just learned what an impact driver is and I figured that is what I need most for the DYI projects that I do. I haven't opened it yet, should I return the hart set and get this? Most of my DYI project just involve me putting screws into wood... thx
Don't recall what was in that set, but I like the fact that the batteries work on the entire line of Hart tools.
Also, as has been said here, get the combo set posted in post 33?
These Bosch are compact and are great for fine detail. I'm also a fan of having two sets (I actually have 3 sets) of drills / drivers because it speeds up the process of the project you are doing.
And, I loath loaning tools, but I don't want to be "that guy", so I keep the set I like most and loan out the lesser, knowing that I may not ever see them again, or they may be beat up beyond the condition they were loaned.

The impact does more than fine detail. It has enough power to drive quite a few 3 inch deck screws when need be but has less RPM and more control than heavier and clunkier tools. It was my go-to driver about 80% of the time on home improvement jobs. Seldom or ever would I get the 18V out for windows, entry door, patio doors cabinets etc. The Bosch was the perfect tool for those jobs plus could step down to the finer ones like installing cabinet hardware. If you are doing deck or framing work all day sure get a larger drill but I think most would be surprised what you can do with this one that you can stick in a pocket when scaling a ladder. It can handle a day of cabinet installation and it handle it better than a larger more powerful drivers. You often don't need or want more power. More power and weight make for more error when not needed. Setting a door hinge or window with the Bosch is easy as can be and you have fine control with hand in close to the tool. Try it with an 18V and you will find that the driver is to jumpy and you will overpull, over torque or worse slip off with all that unbalanced weight in hand and damage the product. That happens so often that hardware manufacturers are voiding warranty for people that try to put on hardware with impact drivers. I've watched guys that are supposed to be professionals installing a strike plate and bowing a whole door jamb and destroy and warp the plate in the process. The Bosch will almost eliminate that kind of error as it is just more part of your hand and offers much finer control while still having the power to drive 2" to 3" screws all day in a commercial setting when needed for the larger stuff.

My Bosch drill/driver is from 2011 and still working fine but it's probably about time to start looking for new batteries for it. Might buy this just for the batteries. Wish it was this deal with the impact driver.

Same - I think my Bosch drill and impact combo kit is 10 years or more old. The batteries still seem to work great. The only thing that broke in these years of homeowner DIY use was the charger - I had to buy another one about 3-4 years into ownership.

These drills are small and awesome, though I do have Ryobi battery tools also; bought into the Ryobi platform just for the nailer.
