There's an empty M.2 slot, which can accept a 2280 form factor "gumstick" NVME SSD (but not a SATA M.2). Spend $40 more to get one & make it as the system drive. It will greatly improve the performance of this laptop.
The 1TB "old" HDD could be kept and used as media storage…

Edit... Cooler heads prevail, googled "Intel RST driver for 17-CN1053CL"
which found me this HP support thread [hp.com]. Going to give it a go before bailing on this. My gut tells me however, finding the rest of the drivers is going to be a chore.

Wifi and sound worked but I'm still struggling with the trackpad.
I might just give up and download Windows 11 and see if that gets me any better luck.

The one I received is in like new condition. While it is not lightweight, the display is a lot brighter and more contrasty than the HP 14" models. I am pleased with it.
