Ludacris is a rapper, but most likely that person's favorite autocorrect keyword. Or maybe Ludacris is really into computer hardware just like Henry Cavill is.

5900X shouldn't be hotter
The 12 cores of 5900x are broken up into two isolated sets of six
The 8 cores of the 5800x are grouped as one and that's one reason why the 5800x has always been known as hottest Ryzen cpu
The 5800X also runs games a bit faster
If your 5900X is running hotter you might want to check your thermal paste
The old recipe of using a glop of thermal past in the center is not good for 12 cores.
Just smooth a layer of thermal paste on the whole surface of 5900X
You don't have to use a lot - coverage is the goal and not thickness

I would always get the 5700x instead of the 5800x. There is barely a performance difference, but the TDP difference is pretty large. And you can usually get it for 250-275. Overall, I think the 5800x just doesn't have a place in the product lineup, especially with the price difference.
I happened to be near a microcenter at the right time, and picked up a 5700x for 225 plus tax. (250 plus 25 dollar coupon that's still available I think)

If you happen to be blessed with a local microcenter, I'd suggest that route. Otherwise, the 5700x is usually around 275-285 regular price.

This can be had for 300 to 330 dollars most days. Better than the Ludacris suggestion of 440 retail price.

2 chainz had to sell one when these were full retail. At least now AMD isnt like "i gotz no competition so we start at $300 now for a 5600x as our lowest tier" right after they dumped all the 3600's for $160 in 2020.

Actually, it's not:
For Most of the days it's stay around $450 for 6 months, then slowly move to sub $400 and stays at $380, just recently been cut to $350 and up until march when GPU price crashed, it's more available around $300 - 330.
So it's a bad msrp at first place yet took a long time to finally reach a favourable state.

Even so, it's lack of stock cooler all the time, compares to 3800x have a very good RGB cooler in box. By comparison, when 3700x/3800x reach end of their life, we got a hell deal of price cut to $250 and free Assassin Creed Valhalla bundle.

The incoming Ryzen 7000 series will switch to Socket AM5 (+ DDR5 RAM) and current-gen Ryzen 5000 processors on AM4 motherboard will no longer be swappable for an easy upgrade to newer gens.

Also, things have changed a lot since 2020. I was jumping for joy when I got the chance to get one at retail price in December of 2020. It's impressive how cheap you can get one for now, but I certainly wouldn't call $450 ludicrous for a great processor.

Thats because its just one big slab of silicon. Its like a 90 watt light bulb the size of a dime. The cooler running 5900 is at least 2 dimes lol.

My 5900x is much much hotter than what my 5800x was. Sometimes I regret upgrading.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank hardypotion

I think some people are confused - there are TWO 5800Xs
One is the 5800X3D (new this spring) and that is the one that has been around $450
This 5800X is the original

Aren't these AMD processors(5800X, 5900X) run a lot cooler than INTEL processors and consume less energy?
