My 5900x is much much hotter than what my 5800x was. Sometimes I regret upgrading.
5900X shouldn't be hotter
The 12 cores of 5900x are broken up into two isolated sets of six
The 8 cores of the 5800x are grouped as one and that's one reason why the 5800x has always been known as hottest Ryzen cpu
The 5800X also runs games a bit faster
If your 5900X is running hotter you might want to check your thermal paste
The old recipe of using a glop of thermal past in the center is not good for 12 cores.
Just smooth a layer of thermal paste on the whole surface of 5900X
You don't have to use a lot - coverage is the goal and not thickness

I am using a NZXT Z73 360mm AIO recently my Temps are hitting 80s running any game. But then again I don't really trust the NZXT temp monitoring. Weird thing is that in Ryzen master Temps are much lower than any other temp monitoring software I've used, so idk which one to go based by. Maybe it's time for a u dusting and repaste too

Aren't these AMD processors(5800X, 5900X) run a lot cooler than INTEL processors and consume less energy?
I think it's the opposite. Ryzen runs much hotter

I would always get the 5700x instead of the 5800x. There is barely a performance difference, but the TDP difference is pretty large. And you can usually get it for 250-275. Overall, I think the 5800x just doesn't have a place in the product lineup, especially with the price difference.
I happened to be near a microcenter at the right time, and picked up a 5700x for 225 plus tax. (250 plus 25 dollar coupon that's still available I think)

If you happen to be blessed with a local microcenter, I'd suggest that route. Otherwise, the 5700x is usually around 275-285 regular price.

This is from Microcenter, so YMMV of course:

I use a 5900x in my gaming PC
Currently its 45c just surfing
For gaming its usually in 50s - I've never seen 60s that I know of.
I use a Mugen 5 Rev B which is an excellent fan and radiator cooler.
Before the 5900x I had a 5800x and the thing would get near 80c on same cooler - a reason I returned it (AMD says 80C is ok but still).

I think 8-12 cores make a big difference
Not so much in fps but in smoothness and details
I went from a 2600 to a 5800x and the smoothness was noticeable right away
Tech Deals dude on Youtube gave me the idea
Now I have a 5900x and the same smoothness is there plus added details
In Borderlands 3 there are these purple crystals in small formations in the landscape
They can be busted-up and collected
Once I got a 5900x there were a lot more of the formations all over the place (I was on same AMD 580 @1080 that I had with the 2600)
Tech Deals guy also said 12 cores makes a difference in Cyberpunk
I haven't played it yet
A 5900x probably get cheaper by August
Last August I got a 3700x for $200 @ Micro

Yes. The Intel CPUs run super hot, and draws a lot of power. Relatively speaking these AMD CPUs are much cooler, draw less power and is cheaper. However, the current gen Intel CPUs have comparable performance (if not better), and also have performance cores and power efficiency cores.

Problem with Intel is they swap out the socket every 2 CPU generation. So you have to buy a new motherboard if you want to upgrade to a new CPU. That's enough to keep me away.

HappyMeerkat1942anyone can help me decide if i should upgrade from my 3700x to this to pair with my 3080 FTW?? or wait for the next generation AMD or the raptor lake?
If you want to upgrade, your best bet is to upgrade to 5000 CPUs, because the newer upcoming AMD CPUs will be on a new socket. That means you will have to buy a new motherboard, and likely the newer DDR5 RAM too. I doubt the performance gain is worth the cost. Another option is get the 3D CPUs from AMD. Rumors are they are coming out with a few more models, and these run really fast on games due to the large cache. It allows you to re-use your existing motherboard, RAM and likely the cooling system too.

If you are looking for cream of the crop ultra performance and cost isn't a significant factor, I would wait for the newer AMD CPUs before upgrading, but you will be buying basically a new computer.

Wrong. Raptor Lake draws much more power to beat the Ryzen 5xxx CPUs. Intel pushed the power draw to the limit.

You don't need more than a 5600X for gaming, as soon in many benchmarks. You really need more than 6C/12T if you're using your system for work/production tasks. But if you like to flaunt your epeen online, don't let anyone stop you.

Are you running an OC with limits set to 'motherboard'?

Fyi never set limits to motherboard.

I concur. From my experience less is more. I made that mistake once or twice but never again after that. The layer can't be too thick where the CPU can't make contact with the heatsink. Just a thin layer covering the CPU is good.
