Bluetooth 2.0 is always in pairing mode unless connected to a device and it's not secure as your neighbors could actually accidentally connect.

Poor build quality; will not last long and one speaker could stop working.

Does not turn off unless you unplug it.

These are the best sounding budget computer speakers on the market. The non-Bluetooth version has been around forever (speaker tech hasn't really changed in a few decades, and if it ain't broke don't fix it). The only negative with them is that the Bluetooth chip has no security check. Anyone close enough to them can connect and play whatever they want on them. I'm sure you can imagine how that could be a problem. It's why these are so cheap. The old non-Bluetooth version, that should cost less, retails for more than these (these have plummeted in price and are probably being cleared out to get replaced with a fixed version). If you don't care about the Bluetooth problem, these are incredible sounding speakers for the price. Costco pretty regularly has the non-Bluetooth version on sale for $70-$80.

I bought the one without BT and not having a power off switch really bugged me so I ended up returning it. Audio is great though.

This^. Besides the added Bluetooth module, they have the same drivers and Amp internally. They forgoed the THX certification to keep the price down, since the certification is expensive. They sound exactly the same.

ProMedia 2.1 BT - Factory Reset and Controls
You can fully control the ProMedia 2.1 BT using only the two knobs on the control pod. Below. you can read about all the possible commands you can use with this system, as well as read about how to reset the system back to factory settings.

NOTE: Some of these commands, including the Factory Reset, will only work with newer ProMedia 2.1 Bluetooth models with a pairing button.

I wanna get these for my garage but it gets both weather extremes (over 100 and well under 0)... I know these sound awesome but I've been through a few sets of them and they do tend to break easily. I don't think my garage environment would do it any favors.

But for absolutely anything else this is an amazing deal.

It's not the mild white noise of the noise floor that's common with class d amps that's the issue. My coworker had a set that started to hum at the left speaker and subwoofer pretty loudly after a few months that got worse depending on the position of the speaker wire. Those symptoms seem to be the common problem with the ones made in the last decade or so. I had to take his right speaker (where the controller and preamp/amp are) apart and resolder. Though, I do agree that the original version of these speakers from the late nineties/early 00's with push-pull amplification were better quality. Just like a lot of things, they don't make 'em like they used to.

Reposting this from another speaker thread: Would these work as bluetooth speakers, i.e. the type to use by the bedside instead of a dedicated bluetooth speaker? Need something for noise to drown out neighbors. I know this has bluetooth but wasnt sure if small speakers+subwoofer is ideal for a closer-range setup like this.
