I tried this monitor with a 14 inch Macbook pro m1 (with thunderbolt cable) and had no issues, I got the full 144Hz with no flickering, the usb passthrough and audio worked perfectly (the integrated DAC on this monitor isn't great though, I wouldn't recommend using it's audio output for music. The speakers on the other hand are some of the best I've heard on a monitor), scaling wise I didn't pay attention, I could send you pictures if you are really interested with this monitor (I would need to borrow my brother's mbp and he doesn't like that).

It lets you 1) switch inout devices without having to change which cable is plugged in and 2) more importantly eliminates the 4-6 second delay caused by the computer disconnecting and detecting the new display and shifting all the windows around . Might not sound like much but it really makes switching between multiple computers much more seamless
Is there any way to prevent the windows all shifting around when I wake this monitor using my win10 work laptop? I use this monitor, and this is the #1 issue I have. That, and it sometimes takes a few seconds to wake. You sound like you might have some answers. Love everything else about this monitor, though.

Are you using display port? I have the same problem when I connect to my work laptop using DP. It's a Windows issue.

The monitor is connected via TB3 to a TB3 dock, so that I can just swap the TB3 cable between work and personal laptops. I'd really love a way to keep my windows in their original positions after going afk, esp. because I use FancyZones and usually have a lot of files open at once.
how's this compare to the Alienware 38" AW3821DW? Price is similar enough at the moment.
It should be the same exact panel but the AW one has the proprietary Nvidia GSYNC module (v2.1 as it has 2x HDMI 2.0 ports).
I've been using the AW3821DW since Nov/Dec 2020 and it's been a really great monitor for mixed usage but mostly for gaming.
After coming from the 34" AW3418DW, I much prefer the larger 38" version for both the larger physical size and resolution. There's also a possibility a 38" version of the QD-OLED may come out, but that may take 1-3 years as Samsung hasn't shown any interest in 38" UWs.
Ive owned this monitor for a little over a year. Its a fantastic monitor, but I did develop a stuck/dead pixel recently. My recommendation would be to buy the commercial version of the monitor if you can (38BN95-C). Its the same monitor, but comes with a much longer warranty. LG did make it easy to swap out my current panel with a replacement due to the dead pixel, but under the retail warranty (38WN95-C) I would have been outside the coverage period.

I fixed a problem like that by changing some Windows registry settings:
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration look for keys starting with NOEDID or SIMULATED. In the 00 children of those, change PrimSurfSize.cx & cy to match the actual resolution (in decimal mode), e.g., 3840 and 1600.
It doesn't sound like this monitor's resolution scales very well with an M1, either.
I wouldnt blame LG on this one (you arent, just saying). Apple has terrible support for external displays no matter the chip from Intel to M1/M2. The way macOS renders resolutions is beyond idiotic outside of Apple approved external displays coincidentally, their own. This is an issue i have been dealing with for a couple years now when i decided to go macOS full time instead of Windows. Dont get me started on mouse acceleration weirdness too....

Thank you for the tip and details! Will need IT's admin access but definitely worth a shot. Appreciate the documentation, that will definitely help to persuade.
They are entirely different type of monitors:
1) Curved 38" Nano IPS Ultrawide (21:9 ratio similar to the height of 32" 16:9 monitors)
2) Flat 42" OLED TV 16:9 ratio
I personally prefer the consistent picture of a Nano IPS panel, whereas my C1 OLED was annoying to use in a desktop environment due to the auto brightness limiter (ABL) kicking in randomly.
You also have to keep in mind that using an OLED for desktop usage requires you to actively change your habits to minimize burning out the OLED pixels. You won't have to worry about any of that for IPS panels.
So, I got this monitor yesterday and I was trying it today. I currently have the 38" Dell 2018 model so I didn't expect this to be 'wow', but I liked the colors and the higher refresh rate.
Anyway, after 6 hours or so, the monitor developed a ghosting/image retention that doesn't go away.
I have never experienced this with any other monitors, not even after many years. Even when switching inputs, it still retains the image from another input (another system, actually). Considering that it has these issues from the fist day I don't even think about asking for a replacement, but a refund. I had my Dell for 4 years now and it's still running strong.
On the side note though, it worked great with my M1 Mac until this happened. No flickering or other issues that were reported here.
EDIT: I have to be fair to LG and provide an update on my experience with this monitor. After the big failure on the first day when the monitor was affected by an image retention issue, I have been able to find a YouTube video that has solved the problem.
Since then I was happy with it on both Mac and Windows, so I can definitely recommend it.
I like the colors and the refresh rate. It requires a bit of calibration but once that's done everything works great.
I still wish it had 4 USB ports instead of just 2 and a KVM, but I guess I got spoiled by my previous monitor.

I was using the cable(s) that came with the monitor!
I was able to fix it with a video similar to this one: https://youtu.be/LdbqwF_KCzI
However, I'm not feeling confident this will survive a long time considering it was used only 6 hours before this issue showed up.
I'm still thinking about returning it.

$1,000 or close to is about average for nicer monitors. Nicer TVs are much more.
