Everyone has been brainwashed to eat these high prices because xyz reasons. It's easier and cheaper to print ssd NAND memory than make a hard drive yet you don't see those staying stationary at 1-2TB for the past 4 years.
Look into setting up rsync or just use something like SanDisk Memory Share.
If your router can host a network share, you might not even need to use OTG. You could have it wirelessly sync your new pictures whenever you're at home.

True but if he's using his router then he'll be better off just getting a regular HDD with greater capacity since he's just backing up photos (I.e. small files that don't need gb/s write speed).
