Pixel 6 owner here. I word of warning.
the reviews stating the slow finger print reader is concerning.
If i can go back in time, I would not buy the pixel 6 because the fingerprint reader is embarrassingly slow and misreads if you change lighting conditions. It's simply awful and makes checking the phone a chore. I hate it. No screen protector issue, not my phone (it was exchanged), and it's a common complaint. If you are coming from a phone that had even an average sensor, this will annoy you to no end.

The Google Tensor chips have such unreliable and poor mobile connections that a significant number of users have to reboot regularly or toggle airplane mode on/off just to get data working. It always happens when i drive. Check reddits pixel subs for more info. It doesn't look like any of those issues will be fixed because they simply aren't fixed in the flagships.
It seems to be an issue when you transition towers, so if you travel a lot or travel through dead zones, it'll happen more frequently. An unacceptable problem most in-studio reviews don't address, but real-world users struggle with, and have been since launch.

warning: This kind of trade in deal came around 1.5 yrs ago for 4a 5g. The say they will respect trade in value if old phone is received within a month of you receiving the new phone. But then they delayed the return pkg . And instead of giving $285 trade in value they gave $15. Everyone had to fight with customer care to get back the money. And they have terrible customer care.

Several reviews of the final product are indicating it's pretty similar to the 6 and 6 Pro. Some early stories and very early (unofficial) hands on videos said it was a faster sensor, but many of the reviews coming out today of the production model ay it's similar in speed. Maybe a hair faster here and there, but not so much as to make a noticeable difference in day-to-day use.

Did you select the "If my phone's condition is different than above, accept its new value." option? Have a pristine 32GB iPhone 7. Debating whether its worth the gamble of sending it in.
I'm sure you will get $0. Only 256gb is listed for iPhone 7. Don't do it.

Are you able to see the credit in your account?
It won't show in your account for X amount of time. Think its 30 days, or past the return period

It will show here:

Per this Google Store Help page, yes, you will instead receive a Google store credit:
  • "If you return the phone you bought with your trade-in, you'll receive the trade-in value as a Google Store credit in your account."
So yes, this does indirectly mean that if you have a Pixel 3a you don't want and you value Google Store credit - which can be used to buy smartphones and other products - you can kind of game the system by buying the Pixel 6a with the trade-in kit, trade in the Pixel 3a, and then return the Pixel 6a to get a $300 Google Store credit.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic
Thanks for the helpful reply.
I'm unable to find whether they charge any re-stocking fee. It seems the return window is pretty short at 14 days.
So I'm assuming if one returns a phone and gets a Google store credit, that credit can be used for ordering Pixel 7? Does Google exclude products from using Store credit?
Does the store credit expire?

Damnit! I have a 13 Pro Max but get very little joy out of it and miss Android in some pretty important ways. Wish I could jump ship.

The real question is... can I justify 2 phones...

Trade it in. The 6A will be free if you do.

Would this work in India for a person living there? Thinking of getting this for a handicapped person. Thank you

The back finger print scanner on my 4a is great. I don't want or need in screen scanner, I wish they'd go back.

Just wondering, can you get the buds free by buying and returning the phone?
yes. actually when you call and tell them you want to return the phone, they are super nice and let you keep the phone as well and issue an immediate refund. go for it.

Does this include the $300 trade in and $99 (MSRP) free buds from Google?
Hahaha this was obviously before that thread blew up with the pixel 3-4 series tradeins! A killer deal though for sure, considering trading in my 3a for one!

Thanks for the helpful reply.
You're welcome! I don't purchase from the Google Store often, so I was also curious about some of your questions. I did some research and this is what I've found:

Quote from imjimmy :
I'm unable to find whether they charge any re-stocking fee.
The Returns & refunds page [google.com] states, "Return shipping fees or free returns is shown on the item's details page." I pulled up the Google Pixel 6a product page [google.com], and see that it states, "Restocking Fee: Up to $55." Per some Reddit threads, people who chatted with Google have been able to get that fee waived, but it doesn't seem like a pleasant experience.

Quote from imjimmy :
So I'm assuming if one returns a phone and gets a Google store credit, that credit can be used for ordering Pixel 7? Does Google exclude products from using Store credit?
From what I can tell, you should be able to use your Google Store credit to order a Pixel 7. I couldn't find a list of product exclusions and there may not be one. The Use Google Store credit page [google.com] states you cannot use the credit for or on these:
  • Other Google products like Google Play
  • Services like Nest installation
  • Subscriptions like Google One, Nest Aware, or YouTube TV
  • Cash out, unless legally required
Quote from imjimmy :
Does the store credit expire?
It was surprisingly hard to find this answer via a Google search... lol. But I did find it on the Get notifications and claim a benefit page [google.com], which states, "Your credit will expire 365 days after it's issued." I double-checked this on unofficial websites, such as Reddit and 9to5Google [9to5google.com], and the 365 days should be accurate.

I hope this helps!

Per the Google Pixel 6a product page [google.com], "If you return the Pixel 6a without the Pixel Buds A-Series, you may be charged $99 (MSRP of Pixel Buds A-Series)."

You can try your luck, I guess, but I wouldn't recommend it, especially because the same product page states, "Restocking Fee: Up to $55" for the phone itself.

Maybe you can get doubly lucky by having the restocking fee waived and get the Pixel Buds for free, but that's not a risk I'd be willing to take, especially not for the potentially high failure rate and hassle.

Take care,
Tofu Vic

I keep reading about the bad finger print sensor..... Don't use it then. A code works fine.

No wifi/calling issues.

Only issue I have with my P6 is during boot the Google symbol isnt colored (it used to be) and only on this website it loads blank sometimes until you swipe down and then the page shows up ( brave browser)
I don't know if it is as bad at recognizing my right thumb as my Samsung Galaxy A71 5G but I have been just swiping up and do my quick gesture. Pretty much not even trying with my thumb. There is just so many times that I need to open up my phone especially at the gym when listening to music. I am just so used to the bad fingerprint sensor of my Samsung. I use my left thumb with its more distinguished thumbprint when I do my banking or other apps that require thumbprint. It is what it is. I just don't think onscreen sensors are as good as physical fingerprint sensors. The motorola physical fingerprint sensors are far superior from my experience. I hope they bring back the rear physical fingerprint sensor but I doubt it. A good fingerprint sensor is really nice to have.

I don't even know why checked thinking the S7 would be on the list for trade-ins laugh out loud

If you get a refurbished 3a phone on eBay to trade it in, will that be a reason for Google to not give the full credit amount?
