Pixel 6 owner here. I word of warning.
the reviews stating the slow finger print reader is concerning.
If i can go back in time, I would not buy the pixel 6 because the fingerprint reader is embarrassingly slow and misreads if you change lighting conditions. It's simply awful and makes checking the phone a chore. I hate it. No screen protector issue, not my phone (it was exchanged), and it's a common complaint. If you are coming from a phone that had even an average sensor, this will annoy you to no end.

The Google Tensor chips have such unreliable and poor mobile connections that a significant number of users have to reboot regularly or toggle airplane mode on/off just to get data working. It always happens when i drive. Check reddits pixel subs for more info. It doesn't look like any of those issues will be fixed because they simply aren't fixed in the flagships.
It seems to be an issue when you transition towers, so if you travel a lot or travel through dead zones, it'll happen more frequently. An unacceptable problem most in-studio reviews don't address, but real-world users struggle with, and have been since launch.

warning: This kind of trade in deal came around 1.5 yrs ago for 4a 5g. The say they will respect trade in value if old phone is received within a month of you receiving the new phone. But then they delayed the return pkg . And instead of giving $285 trade in value they gave $15. Everyone had to fight with customer care to get back the money. And they have terrible customer care.

Several reviews of the final product are indicating it's pretty similar to the 6 and 6 Pro. Some early stories and very early (unofficial) hands on videos said it was a faster sensor, but many of the reviews coming out today of the production model ay it's similar in speed. Maybe a hair faster here and there, but not so much as to make a noticeable difference in day-to-day use.

There is an issue with the camera software. if you look at pic immediately.. it is garbage. Wait a second or more... it shows a good pic. not sure what the problem is. same for both the cameras.

That's a security update. The article says nothing about "lots of fixes and improvements"
Google Pixel 6a is now receiving its first software update. The update is said to be live in Japan, global (Unlocked), in the US on the Verizon network, T-Mobile, and AT&T

The OTA update brings an August 2022 security patch with known bug fixes and also improved overall system performance and stability.

It has to do a lot of processing to show you the one photo:
"But the raw photo you're using from the Pixel is not the raw one, it's the result of stitching together/merging/aligning and averaging more than 10 photos."

Quick tip for FedEx indirect signature delivery: a *Signed* note taped to your front door with your name saying "FEDEX leave package at door" counts as authorization.

I imagine that's because it's processing the photo?
you are correct. But, I did not have that issue with my Pixel 4a 5g.

Thanks, I must've missed the last sentence. I'm still not holding my breath as every update on any platform says the same vague things and they make no difference.

I'll try the 6a for a couple days before I decide to return, but I'm leaning towards keeping the phone I've loved the past 2 years (4a).

I am using Tocol screen protector (Amazon). I think there is a design issue. if you use support frame, it does not align properly with the front camera. if you use with out frame, it may be an issue with the case as there is more space on the top and protector extends to the bottom edge of the screen. just FYI. no issues with finger print usage.

Some people keep the older Pixel phones and use them to sync photos for free. The 4A allows you to permanently upload photos in compressed format (storage saver). I've never done that myself and unless you're particularly tech savvy it's a hassle to set something up to sync photos to the old phone. I'm tech savvy but lazy and also it isn't really worth it unless you take a lot of photos. Plus Google Drive is $20 annually for 100gb. Or you could just save them to a local hard drive which is free. I've read really promising things about Android 13. Apparently the 6A will be eligible to enroll in the Android 13 beta program next week. But ultimately if the phone doesn't meet your needs I would just wait until the 7 or 7A. I think the 4A should be able to last at least 1-2 more years without any major issues (hopefully).

Has anyone gotten their trade-in kit yet? I'm hesitant to open the new phone until they finalize my $295 for a cracked 3a.

Mine was shipped yesterday but since it's USPS I don't expect it till next week. Shows 3-5 business days - just checked & it hasn't left Google yet so it will be slow.

Any recommendations for a screen protector that works with the fingerprint reader? I'm guessing its too early to tell as not many have had a chance to try it out yet.
I'm using Spigen Tempered Glass Screen Protector and it works with the finger print reader but you have to press a bit harder than normal. I really wanted a glass one so I don't mind the compromise.

Yeah, I should have done this because they don't honor it when you release the signature on the website.... ask me how I know.

Reminds me of our healthcare system. The saving to the hard drive is free, but the hard drive itself is not... it's like those people who went somewhere for their free vaccines or COVID tests and got a big bill... well, the actual vaccine or test was free, but there's a $200+ facility fee and/or other fees....... but I digress.
