Pixel 6 owner here. I word of warning.
the reviews stating the slow finger print reader is concerning.
If i can go back in time, I would not buy the pixel 6 because the fingerprint reader is embarrassingly slow and misreads if you change lighting conditions. It's simply awful and makes checking the phone a chore. I hate it. No screen protector issue, not my phone (it was exchanged), and it's a common complaint. If you are coming from a phone that had even an average sensor, this will annoy you to no end.

The Google Tensor chips have such unreliable and poor mobile connections that a significant number of users have to reboot regularly or toggle airplane mode on/off just to get data working. It always happens when i drive. Check reddits pixel subs for more info. It doesn't look like any of those issues will be fixed because they simply aren't fixed in the flagships.
It seems to be an issue when you transition towers, so if you travel a lot or travel through dead zones, it'll happen more frequently. An unacceptable problem most in-studio reviews don't address, but real-world users struggle with, and have been since launch.

warning: This kind of trade in deal came around 1.5 yrs ago for 4a 5g. The say they will respect trade in value if old phone is received within a month of you receiving the new phone. But then they delayed the return pkg . And instead of giving $285 trade in value they gave $15. Everyone had to fight with customer care to get back the money. And they have terrible customer care.

Several reviews of the final product are indicating it's pretty similar to the 6 and 6 Pro. Some early stories and very early (unofficial) hands on videos said it was a faster sensor, but many of the reviews coming out today of the production model ay it's similar in speed. Maybe a hair faster here and there, but not so much as to make a noticeable difference in day-to-day use.

I'm wondering when they will give the current updates for the phone. The last update was April for the phone.
I guess I'd check daily (or a few times a day) since the day one update began rolling out on 7/28 (at least 11+ hours ago based on when news articles reported it being live).

"Google Pixel 6a is now receiving its first software update. The update is said to be live in Japan, global (Unlocked), in the US on the Verizon network, T-Mobile, and AT&T

The OTA update brings an August 2022 security patch with known bug fixes and also improved overall system performance and stability."

"Lackluster" is the perfect description for the 6A. I wish I had thought to use it in my mini-review.

Your comment sums up everything one needs to know about the 6A. It's simply a dull, problem-ridden, middle-of-the-road phone. I don't know who will pay $400 for this phone.

Good luck with your new iPhone. Like virtually all Android users, I've thought about switching to an iPhone but it's not right for me -- I'm cheap and reluctant to get locked into Apple's higher-priced -- but generally problem free -- products.

Well, #1 this is not a $400 phone. I doubt any here will even come close to spending that much on it. Anyone who does hasn't been paying attention or doing their homework.

#2 It's called the Pixel "6a" for a reason - specifically because it's not the Pixel 6 Pro or the Pixel 6. Anyone with expectations of it being anything other than a low/mid range budget phone isn't too smart.

#3 what problems are you talking about? I've had mine all day, streaming, calling, using buds, surfing web, playing movies, Android Auto, etc... not one problem, yet.

Has anyone put a screen protector on this and works with the fingerprint?

Mines was working without protector, but after I put on spigen tempered glass screen protector I can't get register any fingerprint because it just fails at the end and says try another finger but no matter what I try it always ends up saying the same thing.
Have you tried re-registering the fingerprints? Delete the fingerprints you registered before putting on the tempered glass, re-register the fingerprints with the tempered glass on and try again.

You can also try increasing the touch sensitivity as well in settings.

After factory resetting, should you go through the basic setup or just leave it and shut it down?

"After you receive your new phone, factory reset your old phone, then use the prepaid kit to send it to us."

Make sure it's charged then shut it down. You can document with video/photo the condition and operation of the phone if you're worried about potential issues with assessment (even packing of phone).

Thanks, but should you go through the initial setup or not?

You have to re-register fingerprints with the screen protector on more than likely. I'd try enabling increase touch sensitivity first, see below.

"Another thing to do to increase the fingerprint recognition speed is to turn on increased touch sensitivity in the Pixel 6 by going into the Pixel's 'Display settings,' and enabling the toggle for "Increase touch sensitivity"

This is a good article talking about all the things you can do to improve the fingerprint experience and lists screen protector brands certified by Google for the Pixel 6 - I would stick to buying one of those personally..

thanks, what ended up working from that link is pressing super firmly. I thought i was being firm enough but when I tried even harder after seeing the link it worked for me!

Are you using a scene protector from Google's certified list (only a few brands are certified to work)?

"If your fingerprint won't scan, it might be because of your screen protector. Make sure you use a screen protector that is Made for Google certified. Brands that are Made for Google certified for Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6 are Bigben, BodyGuardz, Case-Mate, OtterBox, Panzerglass, Power Support, and ZAGG."

Edit: Nevermind I see that link I provided helped you resolve the issue (you needed to apply more pressure).

After only 12 hours, I'm impressed with the Pixel 6a. Much sharper screen and better performance that the Pixel 3a I'm trading in. A bought an $8.99 case on Amazon since it had overnight delivery, seems to be ok, the blue is very dark blue.

Check out your order details. They should've split it. That's what mine says. I'm going to once I get the phone. Idk who down voted me on that, lol. $369 phone.
Unfortunately when I try to initiate return, returning the buds shows estimated refund of $0.00... If I return the phone, it shows $489.

That makes sense though.. the buds were supposed to be "free" likely to avoid that exact situation.
