I wish our government had good subsidies for electric scooters. It's more realistic to buy a good and nice electric scooter around $1k than $50k Tesla or many other inflated electric cars. IMO, this would help the planet more if we can educated the people and build better infrastructure for public transport and bikes in general. But everything we do lately is so backwards. Sorry for making it too political

That rating is going to be best case.

Real life example: I weigh 210 lbs, took it 4 miles in sport mode, with some steep hills this past weekend, and it used 35% battery.

A scooter uses less than 1/100th of the raw materials that an average car uses, if we are talking about perspective.

Average car weight: 4094 pounds.
For simplicity, we'll say the average scooter weight is 40.9 pounds, but it's probably lighter.

Confront with criminal to fight with them about your scooter? I hope you'll carry a gun with you when you do.
Of course!! If you don't carry, bring some with you who does. Shouldn't be hard to find someone; everyone I know carries.

Costco might be a seasonal item...they didn't restock at my store after it sold out
I got mine from Costco online. It was $679 with no seat. The Costco return policy can't be beat, though.

People are idiots lol. Airtag...then when you get stabbed, shot, jumped, or chopped up with a machete let's see that airtag help.

The best measure of security for a bike or scooter is to keep it with you 24/7. You can't secure anything on a bike rack once it leaves your field of view. Angle grinder will cut any chain, and most locks can be picked or destroyed.

Oh. I see they replied with bring a gun. Can't believe someone would risk going to jail over a freaking scooter...

That's why they always state "up to" ex miles. If you are 80 lbs on flat roads with a new battery etc.
Those with poor range are also heavy, and on the upper end of the limit. I had no problem getting 22mi from an ES4, and 31mi from a G30P Max Gen2. Whether the person is in a hilly place like CA matters too.

Everyone that has this, how are you securing it when you take it somewhere? It doesn't look like there is a good way to lock it up.
You don't. ANY bike chain/lock can be compromised. There's no way to protect it unless you can produce a force field. Locking it to a pole or whatever is always a risk.

Use this scooter daily (6 miles per day) for seven months. I weigh 170 lbs and use 20% charge for 3 miles, no hills. Have put over 1000 miles on it, no problems so far. I charge at work, takes 3 hours to go from 0 to full charge. Paid itself off in six months between parking expenses and gas savings.

Or maybe call the police to tell them where it is?

I got interested in these after doing one of the Lime rentals on the street that was a blast... but since there are a few folks with a dog in the hunt here... are there any comparable e-bike conversions that make sense? It would seem that with the transmission / gears on a bike, there would be a better use of watts -> speed for a bike vs scooter? I get the portability / moving on and off trains really help in the city, but for those of us in more sprawled out areas, I was thinking a bike conversion might be a good idea.

Get an AirTag and hide it on the underside
Then what? Go get killed by a crackhead they will let back out on the street 20min later? Call the cops...? You think the cops in this day in age (especially blue states) are gong to do anything about your stolen scooter?

I'd probably sell the bikes and get electric bikes instead. No need to carry and charge ANOTHER device, and they still work as bikes and less attention grabbing than scooters.

Ebikes can traverse more types of terrain, are comfortable to sit on and have longer range.

Edit: After a quick search, the Lectric XP Lite is $100 more than this scooter, but comes with a free lock, 40+ range and has options for baskets/carrying racks and etc.
Bikes seem great (honestly)

The one area where e-scooter shines over e-bikes are size. It's a lot easier to toss a scooter in your trunk than a bike, whereas you probably need to mount a bike rack

Yeah that's definitely not going to happen in the US, there's no way we could revamp our electrical infrastructure and go green at the same time in 10 years.

Gas engines will be around for another 30+years in the least
Meanwhile it's happening right in front of you, and in half that time. 100GW (not a typo) of solar w/batts will be built in Texas in next 5 years… that's 25% more than our current demand and half of all planned US capacity. Amazing how deregulation allowed for that.

Our current ERCOT mix is already 30% renewables! …and increasing twice as fast as the next best operator.

So yah, it's happening, but sure, hide, naysay, and watch if you prefer.

Subsides, and taxes in general, are the taking of money from people (theft). Its redistribution is not in line with free market principles and creates artificial demand out of that theft. Now that is very...backwards.

Please google strategic plans of major auto makers. Most don't even plan to build ICE vehicles after a few years. And its not something they can just change their mind on - all of their investments is going to electric only so gas engines are 100% dead in the next 4-5 years. The high oil prices was the final nail in the coffin.
I guess I never realized the major US manufacturers decided what people wanted.. Tesla is an example of that.

Unless US oil manufacturers stop producing fuel or politicians excessively tax it (neither are very likely) these large vehicle manufacturers will just leave a massive gap for someone else to sprout up and profit.. whether it be a new company or one of the many smaller manufacturers.
Fuel prices are supply and demand, they'll settle like they always do.. Covid is still wreaking havock on our supply chain.
