Was a tough call between the Onkyo and Denom, but in the end, decided to go with the Onkyo based off this comment:
https://www.avsforum.com/threads/...t-61229124

The extra HDMI out port will come in handy in the future.
I agree with this person's review. I had both and replaced the Denon AVR S760H for the Onkyo TX-NR6050 because there are issue with HDMI handshaking with CEC turned on, limit power output, and I had an odd issue where Zone2 wouldn't stay disabled. I think the Zone2 might be more related to the aftermarket remote I was using to control the receiver, but I just wanted the feature off.

The Onkyo has more power and it sounds cleaner/brighter to me than the Denon, which I prefer for music and TV. However, I'll give a nod to the Denon that the surround sound effects seem to be more immersive and/or play louder where I cannot seem to get the Onkyo to do that. Otherwise, I think the Onkyo is better in many other respects, especially for configuration via PC (see this post).

If you still have your hearts set on the Denon receiver, disable the CEC features and you can avoid that headache. Otherwise I've found this Onkyo receiver to be more reliable for CEC features and more powerful overall. The only other call out is, you might hear clicks from the Onkyo receiver when switching audio formats which are quite loud, but it doesn't happen super often.

Anyway, hope that helps others!
Thanks for posting this, I just re-bought this yesterday (returned multiple times in the past due to indecisiveness and being broke).
A little price history: $450 was the original SRP of the Denon AVR S760H before the semiconductor shortage and US inflation raised the SRP to $500.

My Denon AVR 3500X runs very very warm. Borderline hot. It it's never shut down. I currently have 1 Sony, 3 denons, 1 Yamaha, and 1 Onkyo avr in my home. The 3500x seems to run hotter than all of them based just on hand feel over the top of the chassis.
I have the Denon and it runs hot trying to drive my Paradigm Studio 100's. To resolve the issue I bought an Arcam T10 cooling unit. They had great reviews, looks well built and does the job well.

I bought the first one in the store. When I realized it went on sale, I went to my local store and inquired about the price change. They simply said they run different sales online vs the store. I thought I made it clear that I just wanted the adjustment and was shocked they didn't seem to care. I even said I will just buy online and return it that way if I have to. Seems a pain for everyone for me just to get an adjustment for something that literally went on sale within 7 days of my purchase.
Oh dang didn't realize they sold this in warehouses

Why do you think EVERY professional receiver review has a picture of the front of the unit? All the important stuff is on the back, right? Looks is one factor amongst others for some. I don't think I've seen anyone state it's the primary factor. Have you? Some people like their gear to have a certain look. Remember back in the early 2000's when silver faced components (and even TV's) were the "look"? Some people are happy with black boxes. To each their own.
Obviously Asian car makers are following exactly the same scenario: it's all about the looks for the masses. Applause They can make the car which looks good but they will never make a Porsche.

But that's the thing...it's not "all about the looks" for AVR's. I doubt any AVR maker is thinking any AVR is going to outsell a lesser performing model on looks alone. The looks of it is just one factor.
While an AVR's looks is important to me, it is just about the last thing on my priority list. But I still "want" a cool looking AVR because it's on display below my TV. Lol.

Perhaps if you had a 4k projector you wouldn't have to check out your AVR but could actually focus on what's going on on the screen?

Didn't know those coolers existed (sucking air from bottom and blowing it out the front/sides). I know people had used laptop coolers before.
Seems like blowing air out the sides of the cooling unit versus the front might be quieter for people sitting in front of the AVR like I am 👍🏼

Lol. I have a 4k LG oled and a 1080 BenQ projector that projects on a 100" motorized screen that drops down in front of the oled when I want a really big image, but I don't get your point.

Whether I'm watching random YouTube videos, the news, the weather channel, Seinfeld, sports, a movie, OR just listening to music, my AVR is sitting on nice modern steel and wood rack with the rest of my equipment in front of me. I've been a hifi gearhead my entire adult life. I like cool looking gear that also perform well. You good with that? 😂😂😂😂😂

Be sure and avoid hifi shops. They typically have cool looking audio/video gear on racks in full display in living room/den settings for some crazy reason.

And write to all the audio/video reviewers and ask them to please stop posting pictures of the front of the gear. People want black boxes that all look the same 👍🏼

The Denon receiver I have now shows a mute speaker symbol on the tv screen the whole time it is muted. This burned an image into my OLED tv. It took over 6 years, but it did it. I didn't even mute that long or often, but still is the case. So does anyone know if the Onkyo posted here, Yamaha or the Denon S760H does the same?

Why is it that every receiver made now shows the input name on the front panel all the time instead of the audio codec it's decoding?

Does anyone use the works with sonos feature with a sonos port? I switched to a full sonos system recently from traditional 5.1, but I think I'm going to go back and want to keep the rest of the sonos speakers. Only Onkyo and Denon have models that have that sonos certification.

That's good. I may get a 3700h as my next receiver.

I do, just bought the Onkyo and hooked up my port to test the integration and I'm quite happy. I'm actually planning to sell a Sonos amp I have and keep the Onkyo. My house is loaded with Sonos but the functionality of the Onkyo for price can't be matched by Sonos. I'm not totally divesting of Sonos but this makes sense in my basement to serve my media room, workout room and two garages from one amp.

Btw this is only a Costco unit meaning if you buy it anywhere else you get zero warranty.
