$163 is a great price for this, but $500 regular price is a joke.

Samsung uses "journaling" to preserve data
Crucial and Sabrent can lose data

"However, due to the nature of DRAM chips, DRAM cannot store data when power is lost, which is a legitimate reliability concern for SSDs when unexpected power outages occur. Most consumer SSDs aren't equipped with the power loss capacitors that we see on enterprise SSDs, which makes them more vulnerable to losing data during unexpected power loss events...Thankfully, some SSD manufacturers have countermeasures in place for such an occasion. One example is a technique used by Samsung (opens in new tab) that employs journaling to keep as much data intact as possible during a power outage...

I tested a random selection of four NVMe SSDs from four vendors. Half lose FLUSH'd data on power loss. That is the flush went to the drive, confirmed, success reported all the way back to userspace. Then I manually yanked the cable. Boom, data gone.February 21, 2022

Trying to decide between this or wait for the Hynix Gold P31 to drop in price. The Hynix has 128-layer NAND with DRAM and also runs cooler and marginally better battery life, according to reviews. What to do???

the ones at best buy are with the elpis controller that has the 980 controller which can run hotter; not sure what amazon has in stock if it's older or newer inventory

it's 800mbits/s in sustained writes of files larger after 120gb for the elpis controller

most people won't care but large video or single file will suffer from a older phoenix controller that runs 80 degrees celsius

source: https://www.techspot.com/news/909...-ssds.html

my phoenix one was manufactured 09.21 but the elpis was in 05.2022

The newer controller is superior to the old in nearly all respects for typical workloads, despite the click-bait headlines to the contrary when people started finding out about it. The new controller increased the SLC cache from 40GB to 110GB, making it significantly faster for continuous writes up to 110GB vs the old controller. Not many people write more than 110GB in a single sequence.

How does it not help? It shows people that this is no where near the lowest price it's been, so people who are not in a rush to buy can wait until it gets lower.

For you and everyone else squawking about MSRP: the original MSRP was, indeed, $499.99.
Samsung 970 EVO Plus 250GB $89.99
Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB $129.99
Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB $249.99
Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB $499.99

According to TweakTown that was sold on Amazon for that as well:
We found the 2TB 970 EVO Plus on Amazon for a staggering $499.99. The drive just hit the market, so it still sells for the MSRP.

(MSRP is *not* "regular price". MSRP and list price are interchangeable.)

Really fast ssd for my library vst sound. If you work audio and video production/edition with windows os, this ssd is perfect for you. Very recommended. Toms hardware web qualify this ssd "editor choice". And the price is very interesting.
