If you have any old laptop laying around, find it, install the chromeos flex, you will have a ''brand new'' Chrome book after 20 min

not the acer. its this exact brand lenovo. 14 inch comes with the free lenovo headset too. its always instock at walmart for $89. people marked it expired to keep it alive for themselves. you can seach "lenovo chromebook walmart" on the expired forum.
That's now $169

no need for linux. you can install any linux app or run any linux commands. or python. just turn on the developer function. then install linux apps away. if you dont want google to see all your saved passwords on the excel sheets. give libreoffice a try.

most people keep asking for linux when themselves dont even know how to pico or vi. there is no need to run linux nowaday if its not part of your job requirements.
Thanks, this is a good deal.

for double price. yes.

i rarely use the "touch" feature on my laptop though. it could spell more trouble in the future too. my touchcreen already developed the glue leaking affect on the bottom of the screen.

Probably wouldn't be $79.00 if it had a touchscreen although I did pick up a couple Lenovo C340 convertibles for $64.00 when Wally cleared them out. I find that I very rarely use the touchscreen because the trackpad on Chromebooks can do everything. I guess I need to start trying tablet mode.

Just a thought but, whenever a chromebook thread is "promoted" to FP, mods should add the end of life info as part of the specs. 😃

Bought one of these last night. Great machine performance wise, keyboard is awesome, perfect form factor. But the screen has absolutely horrible vertical viewing angles. I was trying to edit some files using vim in the terminal and had to adjust the screen angle constantly depending on whether I was looking at the top or bottom of the screen. After an hour I was getting headaches because it bothered me so much.

Obviously your mileage may vary with this, but for me I will be returning it and getting something with a bit better screen.

I still use my 2012 Acer C710 without any issues. I think it stopped receiving updates 4-5 years ago.

If ya don't mind a TN Panel ya can't go wrong with this Lenovo for $80.00. I've been using these super budget 11 1/2 inch Chromers since 2012 and this is the best one, by far, since the Acer 710/720 days. Just hit the two year mark of daily use with this exact same model.
I'm still using my 720. I installed GalliumOS on it and continues to purr along perfectly. It's scratched, beat up and the bottom plastic no longer stays closed. But I couldn't be happier with it! That thing has the most comfortable keyboard and touchpads I've ever encountered and I paid like $100 for the thing. Really considering this Lenovo to 'supplement' it. Big Grin

Yes - pretty much any old laptop that's newer than maybe 2007. The only way to know for sure is to create a USB installer and try it out. https://support.google.com/chrome...r/11552529

Do note that there are some limitations compared to official ChromeOS. The biggest is that you can't install Android apps on ChromeOS Flex. For some who just want to browse the internet that's no issue, but for some who maybe want to give their kids a cheap Chromebook to play games on that will severely limit choices.

Mine from Dell in 2010 or 2011, with i3-2xxx, 8gb ram, 240 ssd, no problem at all, all hardwares were recognized and works fine. Most important, the system could update.
