I'm still using my 720. I installed GalliumOS on it and continues to purr along perfectly. It's scratched, beat up and the bottom plastic no longer stays closed. But I couldn't be happier with it! That thing has the most comfortable keyboard and touchpads I've ever encountered and I paid like $100 for the thing. Really considering this Lenovo to 'supplement' it. Big Grin
Yeah, those C710s and 20s were amazing for the price. I've gone through lots of 11 1/2" Chromebooks since then and I highly recommend grabbing one of these $79.00 Lenovo's before they're gone. I tried the $99.00 Acer from Target about 2 weeks ago and returned it within 3 days. Acer's budget Chromebook build quality has been crap ever since the CB3 days. This Lenovo 3 is rock solid. I also have a few Lenovo C340 convertibles that are extremely well built.

Are these any good for running Linux? If I can upgrade the RAM, these would make a nice travel laptop

There is a Lenovo Flex 3 Chromebook: 11.6" HD IPS Touch Screen, Mediatek MT8183, 4GB, 64GB eMMC for $99. It's mention in this thread.

...
Why is this 79 dollar model getting all the love and attention that has a non-touch screen and an End of Service date of 2027 with TN screen, and the Lenovo touchscreen model has an End of Service of 2028 for 99 dollars with an IPS screen.

This 79 model has Intel chipset and the 99 model has Mediatek MT 8183 chipset.

Anyone compare the 2 of these models , because 99 dollars with touch screen and an extra year of protection and IPS, seems like it would be better deal. Tell us why it isn't getting the love.
Thanks

I just happen to see the other thread. My guess would be because of the $20 difference.Confused
Between the 2 chrome book laptops which has the better chipset?

I also notice the $79 model has one extra USB 2.0 & USB-C port.

Also the USB-C port on the $99 model supports up to 1920x1080@60Hz.

The $79 one supports up to 4096x2160@60Hz.

.... cool info , how important is the touch screen and the extra year of service PLUS the IPS screen .... compared to the 79 dollar model, you cite some good things to also look at.
What are you leaning towards?
I just picked up a ASUS 17 inch Chromebook IPS model with Intel 4500 processor, for 79 dollars from best buy last week (and I really love it) , ... and I know it is for different forum room for BIG ASS LAPTOPS, but the 17 inch is not touch screen.
I just bought the Lenovo 99 dollar model 30 mins ago, that has touch screen , I should get it tomorrow. I'm planning on sharing my thoughts on it , in comparision to my 17 inch that was only 79 dollars. Smilie

I also have the ASUS 17 inch Chromebook for $79. Your the person who gave me all info/help about the Chromebook laptop.Applause

I'm not sure which one I would buy. I like the touchscreen option. But I also like that the $79 model has extra ports and also the USB-C supports up to 4096x2160@60Hz.

Thanks for the nod and clapping hands. Smilie
So you too got the 17 inch Monster! Love it!
Do you own a touchscreen chromebook?
We both are covered with having Intel 4500 chipset and EOL of 2029.
I guess for 11 inch more portable model, it might be nice to try touchscreen model with more vibrate IPS screen. I have had 11 inch chromebooks in past that were TN screens that were washed out looking. Am I spoiled with the 17 inch IPS screen! I could be. Smilie
This 11 inch should be tiny in comparision, and I can see if I like touchscreen version of chromebook.
Why are you pondering getting an 11 inch?

I think it would be nice to try out the touchscreen. So you convinced me to buy that one. The $79 model usually goes on sale at least once a month. I will probably buy a couple for my Grand kids next time it's on sale.

pc mag did not give a favorable review of this chromebook. i really wanted to pull the trigger on it.

https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/len...-3-11-inch

what the reviewer said:

Quote :
Using it reminded me of how mobile computing used to be five or 10 years ago, before the advent of slim display bezels and screens with full HD or 4K resolutions.
okay but it's $79 for crying out loud. the more reasonable part of me is saying to take that $79 and spend a little more to get a better chromebook.

You get what you pay for.

Got one last time for $79. Find out it is slow and screen is dim. Return it on the second day.

Unless you are pretty sure it meets your need, I would suggest pass this one.

Do not buy something only for cheap price but below the min performance requirement. Typically one laptop may be used for years.
