2nd Gen Cube is better as said. I have 2 of these and 2 of the 4K Max sticks and the Cube is faster/snappier. It has double the internal storage (16GB vs 8GB) which helps if you use Kodi. Another advantage is it comes with a wired ethernet adapter which I use.

Good chance that Amazon will match the price if both Best Buy and Target have it cheaper. If that happens you can get the 20% trade-in discount.

Original (Gen 1) came with an adapter for Ethernet but was capped at 100Mbps. This made it pretty useless, especially when mine is right next to the router. Does the Gen 2 allow for greater bandwidth via Ethernet?
Cube comes with same adapter, but you can get an adapter that goes to 480mbps, which works for me as my internet is only 600mbps at best. I've upgraded 2 4k sticks to cubes (extremely more responsive for my Plex videos). I'm using the same Cable Matters adapters.

Do you think you can point the way or give a link to your adaptor? Thanks

Bump. Still wondering?
No, it doesn't. Consider this a very good poor man's Apple TV device.

maybe get a 3rd gen cube in october
i doubt it for many reasons...

the cube design was out of the need for a huge heatsink for that 922 cpu.
once they had more room, it was cheap and easy to throw in other stuff.
the audience that uses such android devices for gaming or plex is small.

latest 4k max stick already does everything you'd want in a tv stick,
and better low heat cpu/gpu/ram already exist with less heatsink need.

No. You still need an audio device (tv, soundbar, etc) the thing is tiny and would sound horrible anyway.

I just tried to price match on Amazon and the chat CSR did not allow it.

Netflix requires only 15Mbps for 4K HDR, and youtube about 20Mbps. So 100Mbps wired connection is far from useless for media streaming. Having a 100Mbps wifi and 100Mbps wired is night and day difference, especially if you have many wifi devices.

Any recommendations for a compatible micro USB to Ethernet adapter? This should increase speeds up to 480 mbps, versus the included 10/100 ethernet adapter. (I stream 4K files via plex server, which will burst above 100 mbps)

Also, will YTTV stream at 60 fps? My B6 oled's app will only do 30 fps. Thanks!

EDIT: I'm going to try the Cable Matters adapter.

Got one on Prime day, and it really is a great device. Very cool to say "Alexa, play Breaking Bad" and the cube turns on the TV and receiver, finds Breaking bad, and plays it. Pause and play works verbally too. Snappy performance, and really the best of the streaming devices. The only downsides are:

1. Sometimes it gets stupid, and needs a reboot. Maybe once a week.
2. Not all voice commands work with all apps, for instance most don't work with Plex.
3. Crappy speaker built in, so you won't use this for listening to music on it's own.

Very happy with my purchase, especially since with the trade-in it was about $30.

I wanted one of these for a while, and finally bought one when it went on sale for $60 about a month ago. It has been a nightmare ever since. I wanted it primarily for the voice commands, but this is extremely limited when paired with Verizon FIOS. All I can do with my voice is turn the TV on/off, change the volume and the input. Changing channels doesn't work at all. I have to use the FIOS remote. So instead of having to use no remotes, I have to use 2. Add to that, the Alexa assistant doesn't respond properly and the volume is way too loud. I tried adjusting this with the Alexa app on my Fire tablet, with little success. I couldn't pair the Fire TV Cube with my Bluetooth speaker either - even when it was literally 3 inches away. Very disappointed with this purchase.
