2nd Gen Cube is better as said. I have 2 of these and 2 of the 4K Max sticks and the Cube is faster/snappier. It has double the internal storage (16GB vs 8GB) which helps if you use Kodi. Another advantage is it comes with a wired ethernet adapter which I use.

Good chance that Amazon will match the price if both Best Buy and Target have it cheaper. If that happens you can get the 20% trade-in discount.

Any recommendations for a compatible micro USB to Ethernet adapter? This should increase speeds up to 480 mbps, versus the included 10/100 ethernet adapter. (I stream 4K files via plex server, which will burst above 100 mbps)

Also, will YTTV stream at 60 fps? My B6 oled's app will only do 30 fps. Thanks!

EDIT: I'm going to try the Cable Matters adapter.
I use this one on 4k Firestick and Stream 4K. No problems but I do not use Firestick much except for $1 prime streaming deals. Too much time wasted having to wade through Amz marketing garbage.

Is this the current generation that Amazon sells? The one on Amazon has a better remote. I rather get the one from Amazon.

I wanted one of these for a while, and finally bought one when it went on sale for $60 about a month ago. It has been a nightmare ever since. I wanted it primarily for the voice commands, but this is extremely limited when paired with Verizon FIOS. All I can do with my voice is turn the TV on/off, change the volume and the input. Changing channels doesn't work at all. I have to use the FIOS remote. So instead of having to use no remotes, I have to use 2. Add to that, the Alexa assistant doesn't respond properly and the volume is way too loud. I tried adjusting this with the Alexa app on my Fire tablet, with little success. I couldn't pair the Fire TV Cube with my Bluetooth speaker either - even when it was literally 3 inches away. Very disappointed with this purchase.
Sounds like the fault of the user to me.

I just tried to price match on Amazon and the chat CSR did not allow it.
It's not the same model. The one target is selling is the old model 2nd gen that came out in 2019.

I just found this on the Q&A page for the device Amazon is selling.

Significant hardware upgrades are
Faster Amlogic S922z Quad-Core processor (at up to 2.2GHz) vs the 2019's Quad-core at 1.5GHz.
Improved GPU (ARM Mali G52-MP6, 800MHz)
More options for high dynamic range (hdr)
Local Alexa TV commands are now processed right on the device rather than in the Cloud.

It also comes with a better remote.

Seems like this is just old stock the big box retail stores are trying to get rid off. Why else they sell it for half off.

If this is the 2nd Gen as posted in the description, how is it different than the one Amazon is selling? The 2nd Gen came out in 2019, 1st Gen in 2017
The only change I'm aware of is they included the upgraded remote to the 2nd Gen in 2021, which this looks to have as well.

Got mine today, feel much faster than fire TV Stick 4k. BTW, I can use Alexa to control my live TV set box, but cannot control Blu-ray player (can only switch to the HDMI input, but no power or playback control), not sure if that's expected?

The actual cube is the same as the one Amazon is currently selling for double. As far as the remote, there might be some confusion if it includes the 2nd or 3rd iteration of their remotes. But no doubt it has the newest and fastest processor like the one on Amazon currently.

You made it sound like it was an older model, not the latest 2019 model, trying to get rid of old stock at half the original price. I think this one comes with the latest remote as well. The most recent Cube has the same specs as the 2019 model. They list it as a "new model" in 2021, if I'm not mistaken, because they upgraded the remote.

I have both the Shield Pro and the tube version whatever that one is called. I bought this on Prime Day to use play Plex because of the issues Shield has with intro skip audio sync. I am impressed with this cube. I have two cubes now installed on the same TVs as the Shields. I haven't used the Shields in a few weeks.

I do hardwire both the Cube and Shield. Ethernet is on the cube is not gigabit but that hasn't been an issue.
yeah shield is pissing me off so bad

got the same issues.

Will this pass through Atmos from a 4k remux UHD MKV?

Also is movie trailers working again?

I've tried the 4K Fire Stick and 4K Max Fire Stick with usb storage. The Max is much easier to add add'l storage, because you don't need to fuss with ADB commands like with the 4K Stick. I don't notice much of a difference at all in the speed navigating menus, opening and closing apps, between the two. Maybe I'm missing something. I clear cache and force close apps after I use them. With the Cube 2nd Gen, if there is a noticeable upgrade in these areas, it's probably worth it at this price, although I still feel there should be more than 16 GB.

I messed around with Amazon streaming devices for years, buying a new one routinely because eventually, it would just get progressively slower/less snappy. Got an NVIDIA Shield Pro back in 2020. I'll never go back to Amazon streaming devices. I have my Shield Pro + Plex and it's just miles better. Just as responsive as the day I bought it. Worth the investment IMO. It being able to play pretty much any android based game and stream PC games down to your TV if you have a gaming PC is another benefit.
i dont play games on a shield or steam games.

I do know plex is jacked up right now for streaming on shield

I got this on Prime Day for peanuts with a trade in. The initial setup was incredibly flaky with networking. Wifi was quite poor next to my hard wired mesh router. The Ethernet was also flaky initially. There were issues with my VPN. I was going to return it. Then I hooked up my ethernet cable directly to the mesh point instead of my small switch. This seemed to fix things. I haven't used it much, but it seems to be working fine now. It is a very snappy device, but beware of potential networking issues. Maybe I will try the cable matters Ethernet adapter.
