It's in line with the rule of thumb that new phones depreciate about 50% per year from release

One of the many reasons, Circuit city closed down many locations starting November 4, 2008.

Before 2008, during holiday season there used to be loss leader items on mid range and few high range models. This changed from 2008 onwards in part due to less competition and more online shopping etc...
Also, comparing this economy with 2008 recession is apples to oranges.
It ticks most of the boxes if upgrading from a 3+ yr old phone. Good performance, nice hardware specs, good value.
But one caveat is the LCD screen. Having a 144hz screen is nice and all, but going back to LCD from an OLED, there is some annoying viewing angle issues.
You have to be directly in front of this and brightness all the way up in any type of bright setting, I couldn't see anything when I used this on the dash for NAV, where my 3XL I had no issues with it.
Even just daily using, just the constant fading of text and images can get annoying when the phone is not direct in front of you or parallel to your face.
But at the price of around $300 I didn't expect it to be flagship polished. Just unfortunate it didn't have OLED.
