Where did you buy your phone from?
That was from an Amazom reviewer in the OP's link. I haven't bought it (debating but lots of concerns about this model)

The US economy is contracting in real terms but not nominally. I think we'll see prices for this phone and other higher end models fall even further when the jobs market rolls over.
They prices will definitely fall either way. That's how tech is.

But in terms of what you're saying, it could take months, maybe even next year

This looks like a pretty good phone. It's the same price as the Samsung Flip3 5G more or less. Which is better?

It's in line with the rule of thumb that new phones depreciate about 50% per year from release

I'm not talking about normal yesterday's model discounting. I think the odds are very good that July was the peak for the US Jobs market. We will see some very deep discounts this holiday shopping season. Think 2008. Some retailers are not going to make it out of this recession.

I don't remember that many deep discounts in 2008 holiday season. From what I remember, it was other way, very few deep discounts (due to less competition, retailers tightening their belts etc..),

If the economy goes south, most likely some more retailers may go out of business.

This recession is going to provide a bonanza of deals because (1) there was an overexpansion of domestic warehouse capacity and (2) retailers began stockpiling inventory in these warehouses last Fall to get ahead of supply chain issues. (3) input inflation will drop as the labor market loosens and commodity prices fall. (4) there's a deflationary environment in China.

The only time that would ever come loaded with Verizon bloatware is if you bought it from Verizon or a Verizon authorized retailer.

Is Motorola only updating for 2 years?
Phone updates in the Motorola world are never guaranteed. They are one of the worst offenders when it comes to updating their phones. Their phone update lists are never kept up to date and they often backtrack on offering updates for some phones. When people call them out on support channels, they just reply with generic/canned support responses or blame carriers by saying "updates are dependent on carrier support".

I can totally see that happening. Government will probably bail them out this time though

Yep, I remember the discounts were for lower end models/scrap items (like in the video, $50 digital camera). I don't remember any deep discounts (other than normal holiday sale reductions) for any mid range or higher end items.

One of the many reasons, Circuit city closed down many locations starting November 4, 2008.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circuit_City

Before 2008, during holiday season there used to be loss leader items on mid range and few high range models. This changed from 2008 onwards in part due to less competition and more online shopping etc...

Also, comparing this economy with 2008 recession is apples to oranges.

Due to the pandemic impact on global economy, there is lot of uncertainty. No economist/model can predict the near term economy with any meaningful certainty.

Currenlty using after getting a sub $250 open-box model from Best Buy for the past month, after using a Pixel 3XL for the last 3+ years.
It ticks most of the boxes if upgrading from a 3+ yr old phone. Good performance, nice hardware specs, good value.

But one caveat is the LCD screen. Having a 144hz screen is nice and all, but going back to LCD from an OLED, there is some annoying viewing angle issues.

You have to be directly in front of this and brightness all the way up in any type of bright setting, I couldn't see anything when I used this on the dash for NAV, where my 3XL I had no issues with it.

Even just daily using, just the constant fading of text and images can get annoying when the phone is not direct in front of you or parallel to your face.

But at the price of around $300 I didn't expect it to be flagship polished. Just unfortunate it didn't have OLED.

I guess. not everyone is like you. Some people have wired headphones, some don't want to buy a bluetooth headphone, some don't like to listen to inferior quality wireless music, some don't want additional chore of charging BT headphones.
