Edit - I think we can all agree that Costco has a great return policy (but to be fair, so does Woot), but if you're interested in a review where the Max G30LP received the top recommendation, here's a recent NYT's Wirecutter review from Dec 2021:

It literally hurts me physically how stupid and yet militant you are.
Ebikes also are pretty nuts price wise. Some run as high as the cost of a used car. $3500 for an ebike is nuts.
I didn't return a 15 year old laptop. I returned a lemon within 2 months of purchase. The reason it even took 2 months was that I was away overseas. I said that I only returned 3 electronic items over a period of being a customer for 15 years.

Based on what I researched this "original" model is just bigger than the most recent one and has an advertised range of 40 miles…. Seems like a better deal to me. Any input?

In the second post of this thread I linked to a YouTube video comparing the models that I found useful.
I think if you're good w a refurb, many people might agree it's worth paying the $100 and additional weight and size to get the additional range and built-in charging brick of the original Max model. Sounds like especially if you're tall, the additional size might make it more comfortable.
I was on the fence, but decided to save $100 and a few pounds, since I don't need maximum range, and even a few inches should help fit in my trunk.

Thanks for the reply. I thought hard about it and went with two Segway max original for my partner and I.
I did watch the comparison video you've referenced and tons of extra research lolll
I also learned about the different custom firmwares that can be loaded on these units while there are mods that could give even more power… It's great to see these types of customization that could be done down the road as I progress in skills. 🤣
There is also research and development which isn't cheap and most tedious part of it. Also costs of materials has gone up. Batteries are not cheap and I hope some new battery tech comes along that blows the current one out of the water. IMO, the limitation of batteries' size vs power is what's holding us back. If we can get more power in a smaller battery we'll really see some scooters that go long distance without sacrificing weight.
Agree but they're also spreading that R&D cost across many units at this point. There shouldn't be the early adopters premium now, especially since any bike or scooter company can sort of put one together with parts available everywhere.
I'm just glad that battery tech is so much more advanced now than 20 years ago. Remember the best electric scooters 20 years ago were toy Razers that wouldn't go more than 1 mile distance? These things can carry a fat 205lb middle aged guy 15 miles - it's amazing.
The scooter was packed well and looks entirely unblemished visually. It looks totally new.
However the Segway app shows it has 358 miles. I'm assuming this means the refurbishment process involved moving some intervals into a new exterior.
My question is: Does anyone have suggestions of what exactly I should be checking to ensure everything's in good shape? I will ride and listen for off noises etc, ensure braking and acceleration seem good, and generally use good sense. (I've also done some bicycle wrenching in the past.)
Just curious if there are any diagnostics or other stuff I should be looking for given there are more miles than I might have hoped on a refurb.
Thanks in advance!!

Sucks. Sorry.
