I am guessing your palm router is 1/4" shank only.
This bumps you up to 1/2" shank...and that usually equals cleaner cuts as 1/2" shank has less chatter.
If you ever decide to buy or make a router table, that palm router is not going to work very well. This will.
Nothing wrong with a good palm router...but that is more of an accessory to a good base router like this.
