    For the dusk to dawn operation, I found out that the best option is just to install a smart light switch. I use the TP-Link Kasa smart switch and it calculates sunrise and sunset times based on my location and the time of the year. Works much better than any sensor based solution.

    I would not trust its photo sensor and use a light bulb with sensor instead. Many 1 star reviews on Amazon complaining about its sensor broke in a short period of time.

    Only had it a couple months so I can't speak to the longevity of the sensor. Guess we'll see but so far they work perfectly.

    If these lanterns are older or use a cheap sensor, they are not LED Bulb compatable, and those bulbs will kill the sensor
