12.5" HD (1366 x 768) is a little weak unfortunately.

If anyone is unaware, 8th gen is the oldest gen Intel chip that can upgrade to Windows 11. 7 series and earlier will ryde or die with Windows 10/7/XP/ME/WindowsNT/Win 98/95.

Technically the statement is correct. Average non tech person is not going to be able to follow your direction of registry hacks. I would of rephrased your post. 7x80 can't not be upgraded to windows 11 unless you hack the registry. 7x90 can be upgraded by the common person.

Dell didn't burn you. You set your expectations wrong. Some laptops only get 3-5 years out of the battery. It's especially dependent upon your use of the battery (and especially with older laptops). If you kept the battery at 100% or had daily full discharge cycles it wears the battery pretty fast. Thank goodness newer BIOSes let you set max charge to 80% or 60% which makes the batteries last forever.

Also you could have inspected the battery quality status when you first received it.

This is a super useful tool for battery performance: https://fossbytes.com/powercfg-ch...using-cmd/

Also, replacing a battery in an XPS isn't that hard if you are comfortable taking off a back cover. Dell publishes very helpful and detailed service manuals for all their laptops.
Concur. I bought a Dell E6220 for $105 in ebay few years, this is second gen and upgraded to Win10 and still running good althuogh I hate the 720p screen.

200 is a pretty good buy if you can tolerate the 720p resolution. Everything else is fine also 12" could be an issue for some. These are easy to service laptop. As above mentioned, I had to get new batteries in ebay every two years. Some batteries that are original are really good and last well.

I did a fresh Win 11 install on a 7th gen desktop which means no registry hacks.
Did it take the old product key or did you have to buy one.

Yep, as well as just 8/256GB... the deal from the other day for the 7390s was much better - some of the ones available had a 1080p screen and 16/512GB for $250 - I should've pulled the trigger then for a new laptop for my mom. Got her a Latitude E7240 refurb for $200 back in 2016 and it's still going!
Nice. I got a E7240 refurb in 2018 and it's running rock solid. I did upgrade the screen to IPS myself, which was well worth the ~40 bucks. 768p is fine at 12.5 inches.

Almost jumped on a similar deal but as someone mentioned there are often better deals on eBay. Got one with 1080p touchscreen, 16GB ram and 256GB ssd for $189. Added one year warranty via square trade. Came with a biometric scanner as well.

Couple of things: doesn't run Win 11 via the Windows checker tool. Probably lack of TPM as someone else mentioned. I guess you can install fresh nonetheless but won't be done via windows update path. Also (not surprising) doesn't support windows hello via the webcam. But I don't think many do except the most modern.

Do you still get security updates? I don't care what OS I'm on as long as I'm getting critical security patches
I force-upgraded my Dell Latitude 6th generation Intel system to Windows 11 from Windows 10. I still receive security updates.

The Windows 11 upgrade worked fine without requesting a product key. I think because it was previously registered/licensed/activated with Windows 10, when it upgraded to Windows 11 it confirmed the license was valid and Windows 11 is activated/registered as well.

There are USB-C and HDMI connections, either or both can be used to output to external monitors. Obviously your not buying this for max framerate in CoD, but for regular use this is a great laptop. Durable and repairable.

None of these laptops are worth it in my opinion. These are better described as "used" instead of refurbished since they are all around 5 years old and have probably seen a good amount of use.

Much better off jumping on one of the current gen i3 deals that typically come around. You will get better performance, better battery life, and a NEW machine.

Just my two cents.
We bought 2 grade A and they look like new.

Any deals on 16gb? 8gb for a laptop is painful
I cannot notice a difference between 8GB and 16GB especially with laptops like this. Have you ever tried running just 8GB in a desktop? I was really surprised when I tried just one stick of ram.

No, used would be the wrong term. Refurbished means near or like new. Have you bought refurbished dells before? Even the B grade ones come clean and in great shape. Some times I get one with some case scuffs but never had I received a scratched screen or worn out keyboard (obviously batteries can be a bit worn out).

It of course depends what you buy, but the ones I have bought in the past usually still have the original warranty from the time of manufacturing.

I've bought about 20 dell refurbished laptops over the last 8 years and have generally been very happy.
These aren't "near or like new". These are several years old. Even if they are in good cosmetic condition, the processor is still several generations old and the machine has been used by someone for several years (aka… USED). As you correctly point out, the battery is probably worn.

I'm glad you're happy with the machines you have purchased. I just don't see much value in these older computers when there are so many good deals lately on modern i3 computers that will outperform these and won't have any battery issues.

Wouldn't a new age 11th Gen i3 be more powerful, faster and more efficient than an 8th Gen i7?
If the answer is Yes, then I'd rather buy one of the i3s that go on sale around the $250 mark instead of this refurb i7. Any tech gurus who can throw some light on this?
Thanks!
As the other poster said, yes a several generation newer, lower end processor could be more powerful. But a new $250 computer is not likely to be built as well as a used $250 one. This is a generalization, but often the black friday specials for laptops are hamstrung in other ways, or just built very cheaply. I can't speak for this Dell, but the older business class laptops I get for my family members can handle all the abuse they might give and then some.

And afaik, there's not a ton of difference between intel core generations 6 through 11 except mostly power consumption. I know they finally made a significant leap in gen 12 though.

I run Win 11 on my 7th gen desktop, no problem.
I'd read the Gen 8 info on a lenovo deal page on here. Looks like that info was not-so-much-accurate.

Anyone interested?

Any chance the amex 120 back on 600 spent at dell.com would magically apply here?
