This and not seeing any generic ink for this at a reasonable price. - the price of ink will offset the price of the printer. For those who print pretty pics and buy good ink and want no fuss - maybe this is for you. But even if you do print pics walgreens/cvs might do it better and for less $.
No generic option means no go. Canon has some of the most expensive ink on the market.

I had one of these. Worked great for about 6 months. The printhead began malfunctioning. Got a replacement head under warranty, which worked for another 6 months, then I was out of warranty. There's a reason these are on clearance.
Piece of Junk ink jet printer. Ever so slow printing, even in draft mode. Terrible user interface, not user friendly at all. Will frustrate anyone trying to set this up. I always hated Canon printers. Too much garbage software addons they try to get you to install. Get a Epson! Much easier to configure.
Not sure why folks would buy an inkjet. The ink eventually dries up. I have a color laser printer and the toner is over 5 years old and still works. If you need color prints get a color laserjet printer and it'll last you for a long time. Print any photos at your local pharmacy or online.

Where do you see it's a combined color and black cartridge?
edit never mind it's a combined color ink cartridge that's okay with me I thought you were saying it's a combined black and color cartridge
mostly I use this for the document feeder to make PDFs on my computer. not even using the printer part that much

i'd say generally cheaper upfront costs would be a big one for most people, but yeah other than that, if you're not printing photos or on discs, a laser will do just about everything else these days (i think..transparencies and envelopes and stuff are supported now, right?), and they're no longer 1/4 the speed when printing color, and can have full duplex, etc.
Ink printers just need to go away. All they are good for is stocking shelves at your local goodwill. I have the brother laser which is $50 more someone posted. Save yourself the headache order color stuff online.
