Bill credits blow. Once upon a time you had to have a 2 year contract to even buy a phone. Nice to see the greed returning by the same "un carrier" that originally killed the 2 year contract. That Sprint merger really increased the competitiveness of the wireless market.
What's the point of switching carriers , if AT&T gives me 36 months bill credits what's the problem……. That's their way of giving me $1k off the phone (with trade in) and I only pay less than $3.00 a month. You can always buy the phone up front or payoff earlier……

He is most likely not getting $500 plus $290. It would make the new iphone almost free. (I am not sure about adding line benefits)
He is only getting $290 as one time bill credit and rest $210 will be split in 24 months and monthly bill is reduced from each month amount installment

Example for iPhone 14 pro.....
If you are buying on installments with t-mobile every month you need to pay $41.67 x 24months =$1000

Once he is giving his iphone 11 pro max it will be $290 first bill credit and every month from there on $32.92 ($210/24months=$8.75 credit each month)

Overall not a good deal
NOTE: Tax on full amount
