For a while there, I liked how some expensive routers 8 ethernet sports but now they are going back to only featuring 4-5
That's because the SoC only has support for 4+1 native without adding a secondary switch.
This specific model requires a smaller add on switch for the 2.5G WAN port on the right side (+ 2nd 3.0 port).

Anyway... This is effectively a dual band router. I say that because the 6Ghz band is completely useless for majority of clients and WIFI7 BE is currently in production/distribution for OEM.
Unless you have an intel 6E card for desktop/laptop or a phone that could connect (Likely doesnt need speed to start with), it does nothing..
My AXE11000 never has anything connected to the 6GHZ band even though I have a desktop client for testing.
You're better off waiting for 2nd gen AX hardware to get cheaper. This has older first gen AX hardware from 2018.

Best case scenario with these is a 6E wireless mesh backhaul between two units. Since 9/10 times you're the only one accessing this spectrum locally. 5G is very congested and will contribute to speed loss when neighbors overlap unii 1 +3.
IE: 6E main router > WL BH 6E Hub > 5G for all clients close to each router.
The older AX11000 on sale for $250-300 would be a much better deal (same radios/CPU/etc) Even has a slightly higher powered 5G for unii-1 channels, though the antennas are different. I don't have the older model to compare..

I need an upgrade. I have wifi ac1900 (tmobile flashed with merlin).
Wifi 7 is too far out and u also have to wait for wifi 7 client device adoption to be useful. Getting the dual band or triband with two 5ghz wifi 6 doesnt seem good for me just to hold me over.

The PRO version of the AX11000 is coming out soon, that is not even wifi 6E but it is wifi 6 and it has access to the new spectrum that was recently unlocked which will give it the benefit of new spectrum without the short range of the 6E.

Honesty speaking, the older tri band GT-AX11000 (gen1) with sub $300 sale would be more effective for most users. I can't comment if the performance is better or worse.. AXE11000 may have different amps, EE, and or antenna design. I haven't bothered to compare...
This AXE11000 a good router, but you can get 90-95% of the performance with a cheap AX86S when it goes back on sale for $175 (1GBPS port).. or AX86U (2.5GBPS port) if it drops to $220 area again. All are effectively dual band with same Radio and CPU designs

I don't consider 6E valid due to lack of clients, but it would be quite effective as a wireless backhaul. Same goes for UNII-4.

I actually don't view it as short or longer range.
In high dense/congested areas (AKA: any modern suburban neighborhood) 6E undoubtably outperforms 5G in most scenarios, the problem is client support. It just doesn't exist... Will be the same case for UNII-4
IE: no one will bother to certify/re-certify hardware. May see a few updated/newer/revised Intel AX 2XX chips in PCs but that's it. Back to square one for the next 2-3 years. Then comes the WIFI7 rodeo
At least the AX11000 PRO model is gen 2 with two 5G radios. More effective for traditional HW
In a perfect environment, I do agree. 5G is 100% better for obvious reasons, but FCC won't allow full power on unii-2 (required for 160mhz)..and the cluster f*ck of nonsense involved with heavy congested public channels.. I do wish 6G was pushed more. I'd argue its quite useful when you have 10-20 people on UNII-1-3 next to you. Interference is a bitch.
Basically UNII-4 and 6G don't matter and when do they do matter, WIFI7 hardware is already in full marketing push... Cant win

I currently have a router that has six ethernet ports on the back and I really want something with 8. Other than the ax1000 I think it's about the only one out there that has eight ports. I could be wrong maybe others could point me in the right direction
