The Hynix is a Gen 3 drive and this Seagate is a Gen 4.

This is going to be a faster drive, and the PS5 specifically requires Gen 4 drives.

If you are just talking about putting it in your computer then:

1) Check to see if your motherboard actually supports Gen 4 drives (if you're dead set on getting a Gen 4 drive)
2) You are not going to see any difference in gaming or general use between Gen 3 and Gen 4 nvme. You likely won't even notice a difference going from a good 2.5" ssd to a (faster) nvme.

I have both a Hynix gen 3 nvme and a Western Digital gen 4 nvme in my PC. I notice no difference between them whatsoever when playing games. I just got the Gen 4 because I got a good deal on it at the time and computers are a hobby of mine, but it wasn't a smart purchase in terms of its actual performance benefit.

PS5 is not that sensitive. All it really needs is to be gen 4.

Paid 170 for this about a month ago and been torturing it since.
So far its good to go, almost as quick as my Samsung 980 PRO 2TB.
Hardly any difference when loading and using MS FS 2020 in max. settings.

I would avoid this, I had compatibility issues with this drive and my new laptop....I replace it with Samsung and problems are gone. Sorry but this was my own personal experience with this product.

Thunderbolt nvme enclosure isn't cheap, probably hard to find sub $100 with good quality. I once bought a urlhasbeenblocked one which cost $120ish, but ended in returning it as I didn't find its value for my use of simply transfer files from my MBP. The cost of enclosure is similar as SSD itself

Meh. Hardly any, and I really doubt any, games even need 5500+ read speeds. Only requirement is Gen 4. Which is dumb cause some Gen 3 drives are faster than some slower Gen 4 drives. These restrictions seem unnecessary imo.

Gen 4 drive that's on nvme 1.3, odd.. I have gen 3 drives that have nvme 1.4. Anyways, this drive has about the same specs as the Gen 3 Samsung 970 Evo plus. The biggest thing I like about this drive is the 2600 TBW vs the 970 Evo Plus @ 1200 TBW... best price on this drive so far, might pick one up to replace my old WD 1tb ssd sn750
