For an OS drive you want something with DRAM, like Hynix S31, WD Blue, MX500.

That said, I would strongly advise against the Crucial BX500. I too have had the freezing issue and found that the ONLY solution is to wipe the drive and re-write all the data. It is by far the worst SSD I've ever used and truly does slow down well below the speeds of a hard drive. I'd buy one of those cheap no-name drives before I'd buy another one of these.
You need to try the other dramless drives on the market buddy lol. I can in good faith say I've tested about 7 different dramless drives on the market and the BX is the best bar non. The others are even worse than what you described. But it can also be a bad drive too. Even crucial and Samsung high end nvme drives can go bad and do wonky things. No one makes 100% perfect yield components.

I copied my current os to wd blue ssd from Newegg and it gave my pc various errors and stuck in a reboot loop. Put the old os ssd back in and no issues. Had me thinking my pc was bad.
If
You donnt care speed get BX or
Get MX for better speed.
You're right, every company makes some defective drives. I just can't find any clear indication that this one is. It passes diagnostic tests, has no concerning SMART attributes, and has not had any obvious data integrity issues in the three years I've had it. It just keeps getting ungodly slow. And, numerous other people have reported the same issue with this model. I speculate that it might be some sort of firmware issue. I've seen others point to the controller but I have my doubts because a lot of other drives use the same SM2258XT/SM2259XT controller and this is the only one I hear complaints about. I'd love to know what's actually going on with it.
