FYI. This is made of alloy steel, it's not ceramic. But this is a great deal for this item!

Disagree, you can load it up to the top and still keep temps down. For a long cook I load mine up with about 8" deep of lump charcoal, I can get about 12-14 hours with that. The key is managing air flow with the vents. For a 300 degree smoke my lower vent is set at 1/8 to 1/4 (out of 5) and the top vent is at 4 or 5 (depending on wind). Also its important that the seal are actually air tight.

He didn't say it was lightweight. He said it's much lighter than ceramic. Look up the weight of a Kamado Joe or Big Green Egg and compare those numbers to 96 lbs.

This is intriguing, I have a non fan version and it's real hard to keep temps down. Constantly baby sitting it when I smoke / cook with it.

You're using too much charcoal if the temps run too high.

Had the same problem with mine. Was either too hot or smoldering out completely.

Some owners complain that once the electronic component fails they grill can't be used.

I find that achieving very high temperature quickly is much easier on the Akorn than the Kamado Joe or any ceramic variant. That being said, water will destroy this thing in New England within five years. Buy the cover, it is required.

If all you need is a hot grill for burgers or searing, it would probably be fine. But my guess for such comments would be that since this grill lacks an air flow damper in the ash pan, it would probably be far less useful when temperature control is needed.

Great beginner egg, if you use it a lot you will eventually buy a ceramic egg.

I use the regular as well but I don't have issues with the temperatures. Gotta play with the top and bottom dampers. In the manual it tells you how to use them.

Newbie here. So how is this different from ceramic joe? Is this good new players like me instead of ceramic?

That is a really good deal. If it had come about 2 weeks sooner I would have purchased it. I purchased a Masterbuilt 800 from Costco instead. Uses a ton of charcoal compared to the Akorn (as I have the original one) but man is it easy to manage the fire!! Thanks OP for the post.

Thanks OP for the post. I've been eyeballing kamados for a few months now and wanted something large enough for a big turkey. Now, I need to figure out how to use it after using strictly a Blackstone for years.
